    Side note, I put Auxbeam LEDs in my '06 Chevy truck. No radio issues from them. Q20 series I believe, they even have a small cooling fan. These lights recommended by a fellow mechanic. No more shadows of my truck in front of me when being tailed by a new vehicle with bright lights.

    @saltdog The only reason GM has a ground strap on th hood is for the radio. The hindges can loose their ground driving because the hood shakes. I only guessed it might be an issue. If the LEDs are putting out interfearce they must be the problem

    Make sure he hood has a ground strap to the firewall. This makes a big difference for FM in the fringe areas.     The only factory torque converter that had a drain plug in them were old Fords. (I've only ever seviced trucks, don't know about cars.) Aftermarket converters may have a plug, but the OP stated he believed the trans was not apart.

    From what you describe, the most likely cause is the turn signal switch. You can check that switch using the connector to the switch at the bottom of the steering column. There are many more places it can fail so you need a wiring diagram and a test light or meter.

    The reason you might not want to change bulbs this way, is it is easy to damage the printed circuit wiring. You can't see it, and it's old.

    With Andy's info, then in 1980 GM did still have their posi units in some trucks. The RPO code, would that be different than G80? Hey Paw Paw, @89Suburban any info you can share on your Suburban?

    Yes it could be a much earlier rear axle/parts. Not something from GM available in the 1980's that I know of.

    Look at the pan.. Yes there is a filter screen. Use ACDelco Dexron 3 or 6. I would not use any fluid that states Dex-Mer or multi-vehicle. Others may have a different opinion on the fluid. Get a pan gasket too.

    I really like your Corn-binder GMC! The "hi-tech" hose clamps are installed on many new trucks I work on. The issue is removing them. Unless you are very good, cutting off the clamp, you need a new hose when done.

    There are different resistors on the back of the fuel gauges. That is why they bolt on. Old school tech. Squares are most all the same. MD trucks can be different.

    Ideas.... you could get a roll pan and put the lights in it. Remove the clunky side lights, add a set of sealed Trucklite tail and backup lights. Maybe like this, but without the side mounted backup lights. In my defense, you asked. :waytogo:
