454 engine rebuild and intake gasket leak

Hopefully the intake face of the heads were not machined as that can make it more likely for the intake to have fitment issues.

    Car Hauler tips/tricks/ideas

Personally, I wouldn't worry about the underside of the wood. Most trailer decks rot from the top only. I know of many people that actually flip the wood over once the top starts getting soft.

What have you done to your square lately??

Our '12 F350's at work are the same way. Somewhere around 60k, they started leaking from the left lower corners. Sometimes they don't leak at all, but sometimes they leave a dribble on the floor. 250k or more later though, they've never got any worse.

A very expensive and dumb mistake (update I was wrong)

It kinda seemed like the entire pumpkin might be shifted over a bit? I dunno, I guess I've never paid much attention to how much of a side angle a factory shaft does or doesn't run at.

How to ID 16" 8 bolt wheels?

    I wouldn't say nobody.

454 engine rebuild and intake gasket leak

Typically with used heads and/or intake, it's best to smear a very thin coating of rtv around the coolant ports, to prevent minor leaks like that.

I'm not sure what's going on here, but that's an impressive collection of carburetors.

A very expensive and dumb mistake (update I was wrong)

Why not just try running it? I can't think of what they were off hand, but I know there have been factory built trucks with an offset pumpkin.

    What is this gauge?

Oh that's cool! Like a 70's Cadillac! I'd guess it was a part that was available over the dealer counter.

Yep, those are the later style wheels.

    TBI distributor 454/7.4L

I'd trust the Summit part. It's just the price that a part like that should be, without the performance markup of the name brands.

What have you done to your square lately??

Fwiw, the drain petcocks in the plastic radiator tanks are normally just a quick release thumb screw and they are usually a proprietary design with different manufacturers. Also, there's just a simple rubber gasket that seals it to the tank. I'll also point out that if the tank/core crimp is...

    TBI distributor 454/7.4L

Are you positive you need a melonozed gear? A lot of Comp's BB hydraulic roller cams don't require one. Besides that, MSD offers a fancy drop-in distributor. The big block uses the same distributor as a small block too, unless you have a tall deck block.

How to Tell which Axles I have?

Mad Ogre wasn't part of that whole fiasco actually. There were 4 members involved. One was gone right away (banned I think), one of them popped in every once in a blue moon, one was here on occasion until a couple years ago and the 4th actually still participated quite often until a year or so...

How to Tell which Axles I have?

So I was curious about the Vortec Max trucks and did some googling. Apparently there were different packages. So here's what I learned: The gmt 800 trucks with the Vortec Max option got the LQ9 (essentially, possibly the very same thing... I didn't research), a 4L70 trans and the 14 bolt axle...

My wife and I went this last year as well, and so did @TravisB and his wife. I don't know about Travis, but my wife and I certainly plan on going next year too.

Lol, I forgot about that one too! He seemed like a pretty decent guy, which is why it bothers me that I was wrong about the other one, but can't tell him.

How to Tell which Axles I have?

Really? I think I've seen only two of them. I remember a magazine ad for them, but it was probably 2018 before I saw one (which made me think of the thread). Then a year or so later, I saw another. It was a pretty cool package honestly.

How to Tell which Axles I have?

This actually wasn't the only thread where we disagreed about rear axles. In the other thread, he insisted that the 6-lug semi-float 14 bolt axles were used in the gmt 800 trucks and I said they weren't. Well, a few years went by and one day I saw one of those really rare "Vortec Max" trucks and...

If I ever have a 60k budget, I'll just take a bunch of time off work and build it myself.

Best Locker for 14Bolt FF in 85 K30

Years ago I came across a really good video that showed how it worked and how it was designed to function in different conditions. But it's definitely supposed to stay locked, if needed, past a certain road speed. I could see where there would be occasions were it didn't work as intended. Like...
