We use those mini starters on all of the engines.
They work like champs.

From the big block in my truck to a straight 6 in a Nova.

I would Not get a starter from Napa. Napa sells junk now days

I actually have a starter from Autozone on my 81 , probably 15 years old , plus it has a lifetime warrenty

ALL the parts stores sell junk these days. Some parts last, some don't. That's just the way it is now.

Imho, buy parts from the store that has the most helpful counter people. All the parts stores offer parts with lifetime warrantees.

^^^ And even shopping by brand is tricky business anymore. AC Delco now has 3 different grades of parts,so they don't lose sales to the cheap parts store brands, surprise, surprise the cheap AC Delco is cheap off shore crap, just like the cheap parts store brand. They have a mid grade that is meh, better than nothing and OE standard which is supposed to meet the Original Equipment standards, which used to be 100,000 miles. So just shopping AC Delco is no guarantee your getting a quality part.

I'm not going to gather up a bunch of links for various parts from various parts stores, or even go on listing all the sh!t parts I've got from AutoZone, but ok.

If you want to boycott a specific parts house, that's fine too.

Agreed, didn't ask for a parts store suggestion. Everybody has their opinion on which to use or not, and we all know what they say bout opinions.

I bought a new, not reman, with lifetime warranty. Price not terribly more than reman, heck it even came with new starter bolts! Don't wanna try and deal with a warranty on something like that ordered from Rock Auto or Summit, far easier to jerk it off and drive 10 minutes to get another. Will be much happier lifting it above my face than the old one while underneath the truck - def weight difference.

Autozone is top of my NO list, won't stand behind batteries and everyone there needs the computer to look up a wiper blade after asking you what engine and trans it has. And for reference, I worked in a parts store in the 80's/90's - back when we had all the catalogs for lookup, no computers - had to have at least a little sense about cars and parts.

Just test for power at the purple wire at the starter connection, while someone turns the key.

Use a '95+ Chevy truck starter, along with the shorter bolts that it uses. Not only does it crank the engine over easier, but it's lighter weight, smaller and easier to install.
Bucket, thanks for this. Got the new one in today and it definitely spins over much better. And yes much easier to install!

Both of my Squares have mini starters. Much easier to install due to size and weight, especially if you have headers.

A few years ago, my stock (30 year old) stater was getting bad heat sink. I replaced it with this one and haven’t had a lick of trouble since.
