Have any hunches on what went wrong? I still haven't thought of anything else that could have caused that. Just the collapsed lifters theory.

Oh and just to be clear for others that are wondering what happened, those turned rockers are the effect, not the cause. @PeteJr
Oil pressure,adjusted wrong from the get go,or retainers are sticking up too high letting the rocker walk off of the valve stem. I'll need to look at his pic again to see if I can see if the rockers hit the retainers. I'm curious to see what the builder says. Whoever built it should know what spring retainer combo will work,so I doubt that's the issue. Also need to reread his post to see how many miles are on it.

Yes, it has run for 1,549 miles since I started it. been to a couple short outta town car shows (50-100 miles) Followed their priming, etc instructions, break in oil, etc.
Oil pressure is always about 55 lbs. going down the road.
That one push rod was laying in the head, it's not bent or scarred. Like I said, when it started making the noise I shut it off and pushed it back in the shop.
The rocker nuts don't look like they have backed off. I am OK with collapsed lifter(s) as long as the cam is OK.
I don't know what cams & lifters BP uses. Edelbrock's warehouse is here in my town.
I have heard local guys here talk about how Comp cam lifters have been bad ???
On a tour there a couple months ago, I asked if they did BP's aluminum heads and the guy said yes ???
I have contacted BP. Waiting on a reply.

Decided to do the coolant drain and fill I only have the diff and t case fluids left then she'll be all caught up on maintenance for a bit next will be the body and suspension bushings then I can finish up the metal work

I finally got up to the shop on Sun aftn, with big plans to change oil, replace valve covers, check fit and filler neck for my new fuel tank....

Ended up commiserating with the boss who was there all weekend catching up on bookkeeping and paperwork, mostly CA sales taxes.

Then I spent more than an hour trying to cram my new f***ing DIPSTICK TUBE into the engine block. I bought it from JEGS. Goddamned hole for it is in the back of the block and since the front was up on ramps, I had to like dive headfirst to reach it. Just DID NOT FIT. I ended up grinding almost a 1/32" off the tube walls all around, then found a tiny hammer I could swing between the upper end of the tube and the brake booster assembly.

I did get my oil changed. With the air horn off, I scoped out all the tangle of tubes and coat hanger wires on my Quadrajet. I found this bobby-pin-thing just unattached. What is it?

ETA: Ever notice that Marxists who shout "Workers should own the means of production!!!" Somehow never shout about INSTALLING or MAINTAINING or even CLEANING the Means of Production?

I might be wrong, but I think it goes in the other slot on that pull-off above the custom vacuum plug. The slot with the spring around it.

I agree. Somehow, even though I have a degree in Mechanical Engineering, reading manuals or even looking at diagrams about carbs makes my eyes glaze over.

The linkage has a couple tiny studs on the end to keep it on the cam, it looks like I have to un-hook the tiny cotter pin from the other end, pull that end out, so I can rotate the thing 90deg to slip it through that curved slot. Then re-attach the lower end.

Notice you didn't actually say *what it is*, just where stick it in... ;-}

Here's what I did to my square lately...I attempted to make a spirited 1/4 mile run in a fairly remote area. After stomping the go pedal, the truck suddenly went to idle only. Well, I ripped the Lokar throttle cable out of the ferrule on the throttle body of my First fuel injection intake. Clearly due to my gas pedal not being adjusted properly. I was just barely able to get a couple strands of cable into the ferrule to limp all the way home. I was half considering making a shoe string throttle haha. Good times.

New switch assy from Tractor Supply got it running. (Most of that style are made by the same company, no matter what the packaging says. This one is "Porter Cable" for example.) Mega sent me a new switch and motor under warranty, so now I have spares, but the long term fix will be upgrading the switch entirely.

Hey.... at least it's still September :p but DANG is this taking longer than I thought. I WAS hoping to cut out of work early tomorrow and get color on the Burb, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen. :( Got the new cowl hood fitted yesterday, and the wife stripped it this morning, so the epoxy is flashing off on it right now. The whole body, with the exception of the barn doors is blocked out/wet sanded and basically ready for paint.

Went to hang the "new" barn doors, since I got a different set due to ours having some bad cancer at the top and bottom. (dang that seal seems to be designed to trap dirt and moisture) Lets just say..... they're on there, but they don't quite fit. lol So here I am, about to search the forum for whatever lore there is to adjusting them. I'm dreading what I suspect, that I need to bend the hinges to get them to sit right.

Other than that, and selling the 1st born to LMC (and probably another vendor or two) so I can source a bunch of parts I'll need to put it all back together nicely...... it's going GREAT. :oops: Wife wants to lose the silver stripe, so it's gonna be ALLLLL Red, or Victory Red rather. I wanted to do it in single stage, because keeping dust off a fresh clear coat is just NOT happening........ but finding a decent single stage locally is proving difficult. The local Wesco guys were pushing BC/CC and HARD. Told me single stage is "old technology, that nobody uses anymore". :rolleyes: So that's something else I gotta figure out tomorrow.
look at summit single stage if you plan to spray.
