85 suburban 454 exhaust setup

Howdy all,

Headers, 2.5 exhaust, h pipe, and Flowmaster 50’s get installed this week. Should I dump these pipes after the muffler? Being that the 50 series delta flow is quiet, curious if it might be a good combo for dumping.

Here's the Super 50 set up on my K30. I wanted to have it exit to the side, but the spring hangers would make the tips too low on a K30. I've done it before on 10/20 Series trucks/Suburbans. Due to the different shape of the rear hanger on those trucks there's more room to fit the tailpipe.

Personally, I wouldn't dump the exhaust at the mufflers on a Suburban. I've had two 8.1 Suburbans with duals that exit to the side behind the tire. One had a 70 Series the other had a Super 44. I ended up taking the Super 44 out as there was too much drone.

I have a pair of 70 series exiting behind the rear tires on my Suburban, zero drone, nice tone, not annoying at all. Are you getting the Super 50s, or the big block 50 series? The big block mufflers are a nice mellow tone, but I would still run tail pipes, turn downs always drone and you run the risk of exhaust fumes getting inside. The 70s are slightly louder than the 50s, so if you want a little more noise, those are a good option.

Agreed. Especially with a 'burb which is just a giant tin can (same with a blazer), I'd run tailpipes no matter what muffler. Quiet mufflers on a pickup can drone like a **** on something with an enclosed rear section
