Thanks all. In Central Mass and yeah, the guy I go to does commercial inspections as well, might be them just making it match. Buddy that does state inspections in Hingham mentioned the same.

I do, and the oem switch is still at the base of the column. Manual shift Lever was removed from the column so no dual shifter action available.

Going with a street bike reverse switch and spring setup. Just need it to be functional for 10 mins. Friend of mine who has a few Model A and Model T's use these all the time and swears by them.

Like Rick suggested, I was going to suggest a "mometary on switch," like can be seen at


You could mount the switch, then run a spring through the shift handle.

The spring would cause the backups to come on in park and neutral, so you'd want it to be key activated.



Another option would be, a microswitch, which got pressed when the shifter was in a reverse or park position.

That could be modified with a bit of scheming. For example, one set could be to activate the micro switch by a cam, so it was only pressed when in reverse (e.g., a high point would activate the switch, then, when the cam dropped off, as you went to park, it would open the circuit again.

Yeah, holidays and weekends only, I'm gonna have to pass on that one. She's going to be a daily driver, but have to put that on hold. New issue with the tail lights just popped up just in time as I was getting ready to finish up the new bed install. Life of a squarebody owner right? lol

That will be a way bigger PITA to make work than just that simple pull switch I put in that picture. With that microswitch you will need to make a bracket to locate it positioned so it only gets hit by the stick when the stock is forward and left,but not when it's forward and right.Or on the transmission where the first reverse lever can hit it.Positioning it is going to be tough. The switch I pictured you can mount it any where on the tunnel,under the tunnel,on the transmission,anywhere you can firmly attach it and run a pull wire to the reverse lever,on the transmission or the shifter.

This is what I've purchased.

Simple pull switch with a spring and normally open contact. Should be able to mount it just about anywhere underneath on the Saginaw 3 speed or the Daytona shifter assembly. Going to test the pull strength on it tonight and get a rough mockup done. Hell I just might ziptie the darned thing temporarily just to make sure it'll work as I intend it to.

Sadly, this is not the case. There are a number of proposed bills in the MA legislature proposing this, and another proposing eliminating safety inspections for vehicles over 45 years old, but they are still just proposed bills. I would be thrilled, my 1966 Porsche and my 1981 C-10 would be exempt. The good part I guess is there is no emissions testing required after 15 years, so that's something.
