Anyone running Super Swampers of any kind on pavement? How they perform? Super loud? White knuckle?

It's been a long time but I daily drove 38" TSL's for years on my old truck. I loved mine but I understood the "cons" of a running a tire like that.

Loud? Yes but not as loud as Boggers. Certainly noticeably louder than any radial mud tire.

Perform? Ok on the street, for a big mud tire. The wet pavement grip is not as good as a modern radial but they're not like driving on ice. Obviously, they're great in the dirt / mud.

White knuckle? What do you mean?

Most of the TSL's are bias ply so expect short tread life. A modern radial will provide 40k+ miles of life, any bias ply tire is doing good to get 20k. When bias ply tires sit they will flat spot and it'll take a mile or 2 of driving to warm them up and get round again.

If you are traveling or running fast on the interstate they aren't really the best choice, a modern radial would serve you better.

Also know that the bigger they are the harder they are to balance. Do not buy a big, bias ply mud tire and expect it to ride as smooth as a 32" all terrain radial.

I've driven several sets on pavement. TSL's, SX's and even the Thornbirds that every one hates. One set of SX's were TERRIBLY out of round and were miserable at higher speeds, but the rest were fine.

If you are used to driving a stock truck with wimpy all-season tires, it's going to be a bit different than what you are used to.
