ZF6 transmission swap

Few years ago I swapped in a 8.1L/4L80E into my 1984 Dually. Been happy with it for the most part but the trans could use closer gearing. Wants to hunt gears sometimes on a pull up a hill(6% or so). One being too high and another too low. Looking at gear spreads between different transmissions and the ZF6 6 spd looks to fit the bill. 5th is 1-1 with only 1 OD gear. Question is has anybody done this swap? Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Never got done. Finding a GM 2wd trans for a decent price is next to impossible. Plus what people are getting for the hyd clutch pedal assembles has made it too expensive for me. Looking into adding a Doug Nash OD unit that I can split the gears with.
