Windshield gasket with groove for trim?

What is this? To my knowledge there was never a trim piece that went over the windshield gasket. Just the lock strip in any color you want as long as it’s black or chrome.

But they offer 2 separate parts. Normal or with groove for trim.

Here is the gasket with the trim grove and after the trim is installed. If you don’t want the chrome strip Wich is very hard to install just get the regular gasket

The "trim groove" is just the groove for the lock strip, weather it's black or chrome. Same thing, not actual trim

Ok makes sense to me. But I must be dense.

Yes you can purchase either one . With or without trim grove.

Base trucks did not have the grove. I know when I installed the new rear glass on my '79 I used the base style gasket as I was switching to black trim in the front and didn't see a reason to spend the extra money on the two piece rear.

@Craig 85, this question sounds like I’m dense, but are you saying there is one style of gasket (windshield and rear window) that has NO lock strip and the glass just fits tight in the gasket. And another style (like I’m accustomed to) that uses the lock strip?
Prior to this truck, as someone who hasn’t been around a squarebody since before they were known as squarebodys, I’m not real well read on the nuances of different models.

I worked for a city that had square bodies in the fleet. I recall those base model trucks did not have a lock strip front or rear, because it was different than the Square bodies I had at the time.

I'm sure it's much easier using the lock strip style than not. It wasn't too hard installing the new rear slider in the '79. You just use a lot of liquid soap and a rope to pull in the gasket. There are you tube videos I'm sure.

I installed the front in that truck too (by myself I'll add), but I used the lock strip style. I did not use any sealant as there was none on that truck or my current '85 when the original got removed. Again I used a lot of soap. I had to do some careful pounding on the glass to make it fit the top corners, but got it in. Definitely get one of the tools to install the lock strip.

There were companies that made glass gaskets that are one piece with a lock strip. The molded rubber has a slot for the lock. The lock was molded to an edge of the slot. After the glass was installed in the frame, you roll/push the lock into the slot.

Here's a good video that shows the install and shows the "non-lock strip" version. I've done the install of this one on a buddy's '73. I'll never attempt that again lol
