Hi,
So i've been getting some wierd noises occasionally from my steering column.
When i turn sometimes, theres a kind of groan, or just sounds like something rubbing.
And, when i turn the wheel from straight to about a quarter turn to the right sometimes it has a high pitched squeak, again sounding like rubbing, but it will do that for a little while (Like if a road is slightly curving to the right, i go to the right that quarter turn and it squeaks, then i go back to straight to stay in the lines, then back to right again) but then after a little while it won't do it, then will again.
Any ideas?

Thanks!

An under the hood squeak or in the column? Old Chevys power steering belts usually start squealing if the belt has become loose or just simply worn out. A new belt is probably in order if that's the high pitched squeal you're talking about, and also check the actual pulley itself for wear too.

Check to see if the pump is out of line also. It has something to do with your pump.

The more groany noise is down far enough i can't tell if its in the cab or engine bay
The high pitched one is definitely in the cab, right at the top of the steering column it sounds

And, my power steering belt does squeal under acceleration when its cold, and its a little loose, i just havent gotten around to tightening it yet

Is the high pitched noise a squeal or a squeak?

A squeak, sounds like 2 things rubbing against eachother, if that helps describe it better
