So i have a 1984 chevy stepside that was given to me from my grandpa he bought new from the dealership and Im about ship to basic for the navy. i plan on saving some money and building a big block for this truck since it has the stock 305 and tranny. any ideas on what big block i should go with i was thinking a buick 455 to stand out but im not sure. let me know your thoughts.

The buck 455 can be a monster. that said you will spend monster cash. @quadrajetpower can give you his insight on it as he has raced with that engine. there's not as many upgrade parts for the 8.1 as the 6.0 but if your wanting a big block the I'd say 8.1 as well. just do a lot of research b4...

Ya if I was gonna dump money into a new setup LS/LSX would definitely be the way to go. You can even carb them if you like the nostalgia.

High torque 502 (377 HP and 512 FTLBs) or do a GM HT 383 and add a 144 supercharger to it for a few $$$ more.

Ya true... No point in having a lot of HP if you don't have a good transmission behind it. I have this problem with my Camaro rite now and it sucks.
