Good to know. I need to roll mine across mostly dirt, so the casters need to be good or replaceable. Looks like a trip to HF is in order
Casters are replaceable and can get the different sizes through HF's phone number (I haven't tried but have read online you have to call, they don't have the replacement casters in store). If you're mostly rolling over hard packed dirt, you'll likely be fine with the wheels that are on it or maybe replacing with a similar size but wider hard rubber tire. I wouldn't try pneumatics just cuz they're gonna be taller and the box will want to tip. We did that with a cheapy HF box for taking around to car shows and it tips over quite a bit lol

Pneumatic tires are great but I can see them being a pain if not aired to a firm or equal PSI. I went to the HF website last night, turns out I wasn't looking at the US General boxes, it was the HF lower brand that is less spendy than the craftsman and husky, etc. Either way, I need to find a rolling box, and with tax returns coming soon, I think I'll be getting the USG for sure.

In 2005, after rolling Mean Green and needing to get the truck into pieces to appease code enforcement, I was able to put the 350 on the pneumatic tire garden cart. That was sketchy going over the uneven ground but it stayed on it. Even with the tires aired-up to 35 psi, it was "rocky". Stupid me, though, didn't cover/seal the engine as well as I thought I had, and even though it sat under the eave of the house, it got water in #4 & #6 cylinders, making the engine a boat anchor unless I wanted to send it to a machine shop. Everything was in excellent condition except those two cylinders. That engine was basically just broke-in as it had roughly 30k on it and ran great. That's when I took the vortec heads, intake, and 300hp/327 cam that was slated for that engine, and swapped them on the engine in the '81.

What are your thoughts on the US General boxes? Been eyeing them since they are less spendy than Craftsman(Lowes) and Husky(Home Depot) and the other brand from Tractor Supply. Since I have no garage or shop, and it's a royal PIA to do any work on the vehicles dragging out tools and parts, that alone can take up to an hour total, then putting it all away can take even longer. Been kicking around the idea of getting a good rolling box and cart for tools and parts to make the drag out and back much more efficient.
Sounds like a decent pit box maybe a 3 drawer with a flip top,and a decent red wagon might be a good investment. A pit box will hold a full set of sockets, combination wrenches, screwdrivers and a lot more throw it on the work bench when inside, throw it in the wagon, drag it down the driveway for outdoor use. I actually keep a 3 drawer pit box on the front porch, shut inside the top of a modified stainless BBQ grill, for driveway work. By modified I mean I removed the gas stuff and put angle iron in to hold the box. Nobody is going to look in a BBQ grill for tools and it protects the box from rain. I use the bottom area where the bottle is supposed to go for storage too.

I have no inside, it's all outside, and the tools are out back and it's a 300 feet round trip if I need something I didn't grab, or forgot to bring out. We have a lot of undesirables on foot in our neighborhood, so I don't like leaving the tools in plain sight. I am wanting a box big enough to put all of the tools in that I could possibly need for each vehicle, and then a cart for parts, and those can be set up out of sight at the end of the driveway. I do have a garden cart/wagon and do utilize it for tools and parts, but it's low and can't be used for a work surface. It does make a decent seat, though...lol...

Your grill toolbox idea is slick. If I see one at a yard sale I may have to snatch it up.

The wagon is a great idea. I think if that were my situation, I'd look into trying to find a fairly heavy duty/wide wagon and put a 27" like I just bought in it or one of the 5-drawer cart and just put the box in the wagon. Then have a fold up table or two for a work surface, just toss them on top while you wheel it all out there. Either of those boxes are small enough to have many mobile options but still hold all the necessary tools for most jobs. I worked out of a 5-drawer cart for a while as a pro-mechanic at a race team till I ran out of room and upgraded

There's a full 3 drawer pit box in the top and a deep cycle battery and charger in the bottom right now. I say that,I didn’t look, but I'm sure it's there,no one looks in your BBQ grill.I should put a plastic storage bin in the bottom or some sterilite plastic storage drawers. The side shelves are handy too. There's always a dozen of these thrown out at the curb in the spring,if your lucky it will have a tank and regulator to make an air bubble from. I had intended on opening it up and showing it off,but looks like we got some snow. It's maybe 20 feet to the driveway the bucket holds parts, I should put it in the bottom.

I also keep a small air compressor in a dog house just off the front porch close to the driveway, for filling tires or air bubbles, moved the compressor where you could see it. Reach in grab the hose and plug, plug it in and wait a minute. I leave it turned on and pushed to the back,it never comes out, never gets moved, never is seen. Just leave the switch in the on position, plugged in is on,unplugged is off.
