What new tools have you got lately?

normal ceiling in the garage I got these and paid ~$20 for longer extensions. They daisy chain so you only plug one in. So for ~$65 you get 6 lights, not including flashing if you don't have reflectors/flashing. Cardboard and metal tape is cheaper than flashing I'm sure....just an option.

We replaced the flouescents at the shop with 4 and 8 ft LEDs. The 8 ft were from Home Depot, the 4 ft from SuperbrightlLEDs.com

We did some homework before we decided on what to use in our building. If you use a ballast you're not going to see the kind of significant energy savings an LED is capable of. The ballast itself is a big power hog. Plus they're another potential failure point and expense to repair. I think our 4ft fixtures consumption with bypass LEDs was 1/4 of what the florescents used. With a ballast and LEDs my recollection is consumption only dropped by 1/3. The energy savings (at least in this criminal state) more than pays to go to straight LED. In bulk, I believe Superbright's 4 ft tubes were around $6.50 ea.

I am building an LT1/L86 6.2 for my 2017 single cab Silverado and I needed to put some new o-rings on my injectors. I had to get this little kit to get them on. I guess that at 2100 psig fuel pressure you just can't roll them on with a little grease.

I got something else. I needed a full length light for under hood work. I found this one that uses the 20 volt batteries that my other Craftsman tools use, and, I saved $20 buying it on eBay. I already have about 12 or so pieces of the Craftsman 20 volt tools so it made perfect sense.

I buggered one of the lower control arm threads getting the old bushing out. So I needed to buy a new tap and die set as mine only went up to 1/2' Harbor Freight to save the day and pocket book. The set seems really well made. If I was needing to use these all the time I'd spend for a name brand set but I rarely need one so it will fit the bill.

So I sent the boy to Harbor Freight after watching a bunch of reviews on YouTube to pick up a new unit.

I last bought sunco LED tubes to do my shed (Had to do about 40 between my house and shed and garage and a couple for family.)
I have yet to have a single tube fail, 4 of them have been constantly on since 2019 except for power losses once in a while.

Great light output, and single ended power I found to be an advantage because I did most of these overhead on fixtures that were solidly mounted to the ceiling and thus was a little bit of a bear on a step ladder but I did it. Double ended power is safer and requires a bit mrore work. ify ou put a glass tube in a single ended power converted fixture, you will INSTANTLY BLOW UP THE GLASS TUBE which means your face wide open to its doom.

Did they finally improve them? The sets they used to sell in the plastic cases were utter garbage. Like, completely not usable. Might as well just burn your money. The pipe tap sets in the wood cases are decent however.

I have no experience with them before. My other tap and die set is an older craftsman. But the HB set recut/cleaned up the 3/4" threads just fine in the lower control arm shaft.

i have a plastic case set from menards.. pure junk. probably can clean threads ok but for cutting them.. no. the taps were better than the dies in this regard, but the hardness on the taps doesnt seem up to snuff. Now the hardness on my plug thread chaser is really nice, but that only has 2 sizes

Edit, apparently using a tap to fix threads is improper so I should be less demanding of my tools when Im using them incorrectly LOL

Do not buy cheap taps,if money's a problem buy the ones you need in the size you need,as you need them Also buy the correct size drill bit to keep with it. It's not just a convienence factor,it's not galling threads in a block or breaking a bound up tap off. And in general be careful with taps and dies,use a tap drill chart,go slow,careful, if it's starts to feel funny back it out,clean out the chips,lubricate and continue, research when you need to use a bottom tap.I have no idea over time how many guys brought us blocks or heads with Taps or EZ Outs broke off in them. And you cannot drill out broken taps or EZ Outs. They shouldn't even be called EZ Outs they should be called Fukt up your whole week thingys.
