What is this bolt and hole for?

I've owned and checked out many squarebodies over the years but this is the first time I have seen this bolt and hole in the hood. What do they do? I was thinking either tripping an under hood light or this is a rear snubber for the hood.

78-79 up? Don't remember for sure and don't know about the support on the hood. We shut the Chevy store down in September 1980 and they were on them before that.

Nothing, the bolt on the firewall goes inside the hood hole when closed.

neither my 87 nor my 91 had that bolt. That's intriguing.

They are on the hood hinges on 73-80. The back of the hinge have a u-shape and the cab has the bolts on them near the fenders. I've never seen them in the center. 81-87 they have a hook on the aft hinge part that hooks into the cowl area.

Some '78-'80 trucks have the one in the center like that. I'm not sure why only some do. But there is supposed to be a reinforced piece on the hood.
