Drove it to lunch yesterday and it was fine. Got in it to go home last night and the gauges were flashing "18V" and "Check engine". Pulled it back in the shop, hooked up the multimeter and sure enough, it was sending 19+ volts into the battery. Shut if off and unhooked the battery, I'll go get an alternator at lunch today

Nah, just smack the alternator with a hammer a couple times lol. No joke, it could possibly fix it. Maybe for a short while, but maybe for a long while. You never know with the parts store stuff these days... if it fixes the overcharging, it could possibly last longer than whatever alternator you replace it with.

Really? I've done that plenty of times with a starter, never with an alternator. Running or not running? Lol

Running. I mean, it often doesn't work, but sometimes it does.

Lol, it's my go-to with anything electronic that's not working properly. First thing I do is give it a good smack.

"BETTER THAN IT WAS" Is the key part of this statement. A lot of people refuse to try stuff because " what if i mess it up", well it was messed up before... so try it and hey, you know what, it will probably be better than it was and you learned something.

Base/clear or single stage?

I believe all your prep work paid off, it looks straight with nice panel fitment from here.

Black is the most challenging color to paint, it shows everything. Color sanding doesn’t always make it better, plus you’re now one less layer closer to primer. In my case, I am hoping the chrome trims will distract one a little bit from the flawed paint. Bodywork and paint is a challenge when you don’t do it daily. It takes months for paint to completely dry so if you decide to sand keep that in mind.

We like to call this Percussive Calibration. Operators in the plant love to use it on level switches, pressure switches and sometimes on transmitters. I&E Techs hate this.

Tried it both ways with no luck. Wacked it as hard as I dared lol. Gonna take it back to Orielly's and hope it's still under warranty

Instructions say you can sand the next day but not to wax for 6 months.

In my experience, the longer you wait, the harder it is to sand. BUT, the longer you wait to sand, the better the results will be. And the finish will tend to hold it's gloss much longer. If you sand too soon, the paint may start to dull out or "die" after a few years (or sooner) and you'll have to give it a light color sand and buff again.
