Got the transmission out completely. Side by side pic. The guy that's gonna build the 400 won't get to it for a couple weeks. Should give me enough time to get everything cleaned up underneath and ready.

I swapped a fixed output th400 in place of a long tail th350 and used the stock shaft. The trick is in the front yoke. I used a front yoke from a 1/2 ton, 4x4. It is longer, 32 spline and uses the same u-joint. I simply unbolted the fixed yoke from the th400 and slipped in the old shaft with the 4x4 slip yoke. The overall length is slightly longer than needed, but it works fine.

Sanded the glazing putty and taped the stripes on both sides. Gonna shoot primer and then white paint. Wide stripe will be metallic blue and less wide stripe orange, opposites on the color wheel. And, broncos colors. Bugs are out, almost 80 today, won’t shoot if they’re around.

Thanks @bucket I may give this a shot temporarily. I don't even know if its the driveshaft for this truck?? Seems like it should've been at least 3" diameter but is only 2 3/4"

Cover that open engine up with some valve covers and carboard in the valley area. Asking for trouble down the road if debris gets in there. As a retired Nascar engine builder , makes me cringe just seeing your picture .

When I've had to leave an engine open, I take newspaper and painters tape and put a few layers to "seal" it up, and then drape a towel and then a tarp over it, and of course leave the valve covers on, spark plugs in, etc.

Picked it up from the shop today. It was ready yesterday but got parked in after the shop closed by some careless so and so. Begrudgingly the wife and I had to leave it in the lot. The in-laws happened to stop by the house this afternoon and offered to take me to the truck. It is running good and home, and I am very releaved. Fridyay!

I told these folks everything I had experienced and done with it in the last month. I was really getting lost down all the rabbit trails and overwhelmed. They unkinked the flex hose that was nearly 90° past the fuel filter and they noticed something that I never did, nor thought of: the bolts on the intake were loose(vacuum leak) and said it ran fine after that. I told them that the radiator leaked and had them diagnose as to if it was an easy fix or a replacement necessary...nope, water pump was leaking out the lower weep hole. They recommended replacing with a heavy duty aluminum one. I said, do it! They also inspected it last minute, April it would have been over-due. I will be going back to this shop on the next bigger than driveway sized project for sure.

A couple of trips out in the truck are in the forecast for tomorrow.

I'm happy to hear that you found a shop that seems like they know what they are doing. Super stoked you got it back running like it should.

Mine may have been 2 3/4" as well. If I remember, I can go measure it. The yoke came from my own '88 V1500 Suburban. The shaft was a larger diameter, but the ends tapered down to a smaller diameter.

Congratulations man! Glad she’s up and going again. I know I don’t sleep well when my square is down.

Got the voltmeter taken care of. Picked up the printed circuit retaining clips from my buddy, and for sure they are a thicker gauge of metal. Took a lot more effort to snap them in as well.

The other thing I noticed was one of the nuts in the back of the gauge was almost imperceptibly loose. Tightened that up as well. I have a feeling that it was the main issue, but either way, the clips from LMC weren’t high quality.
