What have you done to your square lately??

I thought this was humorous. I didn't panic (mostly). For those who have a garage or shop NOT full of stuff. Pics are in order of, 1) final result 2) Issue, you see it? 3) plan 4) Yay! Had to giggle internet to figure out how to remove drawer. Two screws, sh!t in the way...drill with 90° attatchment, boom.

When at the shop, a coworker once hacked up one of our nut/bolt cubby cabinets to get a full floater axle out.

I thought about it when mine broke, but then I hired a guy to do it. I had NO idea how much tension those things are under and how he had to wind it up. It only broke because I didn’t lubricate the spring, it was binding as it wound and unwound. Now once a year, I spray some garage door silicone on it, but he said you could do the same with some old 10-30 you have laying around.

Paint a horizontal white stripe on each resting spring so you can count the turns on each side while winding, not a bad idea to wear safety gear including eye protection and a full face helmet, lots of energy stored in a winding spring.

I've watched it done a couple times. No way in hell I'll ever mess with one of those

On the subject of garage door springs breaking. A coworker lived in the family house that was built in the early 1900's. It has a detached garage. He came to work one day and told me he and his girlfriend were in the house and heard a heck of a racket in the backyard. She asked "What was that!?" His response, "The garage door spring". He went out and sure enough the spring had sprung.

It is a really cool house.

I tried that once and about busted the windshield in my truck when it came undone lol so yes definitely use caution

I'm no garage door expert at all, but I think it's easier and safer to adjust the spring tension with the door all the way up and then pushed even farther open, to gain access. There is much less tension on the springs that way.

We had a spring let go and it punched a hole in the far garage wall sheetrock.

I understand that they put a cable through the center of them nowadays to contain it if it fails.

Tension springs, not torsion springs, obviously.

Had a few minutes this afternoon to finish installing the mirrors, wipers & vent window & moldings. Door panels are in & the rotten dash pad is next.

Prepped the core support and cowl for paint, cleaned the drain tunnel, and also removed the hood hinge bezel so I can citristrip the blue and white over spray.
