I truly think @bucket is right about the pump.
I will add that since you mentioned the PO installed new pumps the two things I would be focused on would be:
1. What brand of pump did he install vs. what you are installing.
2. The ground wire connection which I know you are already concerned about and @Strick has been good enough to provide pics of.

No if I were to take the truck to a mechanic at a garage to work on it is what I meant but I get what your saying, which is why I am running around buying all the stuff I need to do the next project for the truck without asking permission. Hahaha yeah @Redfish got a little wired at the misunderstanding.
To your point, yes if one cannot tackle a lot of stuff on their own, old vehicles get very expensive. You’re on the right track. Always hard to judge what someone’s proficiency or resources are. Things I take for granted like a sawzall not everyone has.
You’re not mucking up this thread but if it made ya feel better, just start a thread for your truck.
Unfortunately I don’t think the pump is the issue if it runs good at higher loads.Fuel Pumps don’t generally put out sporadic pressure. They’re either fine, dying (usually quickly) or dead. Not intermittent.
Back to the exhaust.
IMO either it’s disassemble enough to fish the cat out of there. It’s been apart before. That’s what the “aftermarket” slices are in the bell ends. To get it loose enough to go over the crimped section. But if you cut it, look first to make sure where you want to cut it. Do you want to save all of the pipe on either end with a shorter replacement piece or cut the crimp off or those pipes resulting in a longer replacement (only 4-5” longer).

If @bucket thinks it’s your pump (on the good side) I wonder why.
And @Redfish recalled both your pumps are new(er).
Seems like you’re throwing parts before diagnosing both tanks/pumps etc. or is the other tank leaking anyway and has to come down regardless?
fuel pressure. Is easy test.
Non working pump and or switch or wiring, I’d diagnose that first before tearing in with the demolition tools and creating another side project (cat/exh pipe) that will also be time consuming for you.
JMO with what I know about the issue again or still.

Yes sir. Had a couple of Longbed sides that were doing nothing. Had already robbed some pieces for a member in NY.

I'm going with solid paint on this one, no two-tone. It was 29 Dark Blue and the paint was horrible. It has a respray at some point with what I think was synthetic enamel. I've had to cut this thing down with 40 grit on the DA along with paint remover chemical. It has still been a chore to remove even with the duo of removal methods. Anyway, the local supply shop had some "High Teck" base that mixed 1:1 so this gave me plenty of material to spray the interior and jamb out the rest of the panels. The color is midnight blue pearl metallic; it is certainly beautiful under lights and gives some POP over the basic 29. Your truck has 29 on the dominant color doesn't it? It is a popular choice on these Squares so I've found.

Moved the 76 back into the shop, it was hanging out in a friend’s unit while we did the work on his Dodge. Pulled it on the lift and took a look underneath.

Keep in mind this truck was daily driven from 2017 to early 2023. I really was not great about washing it, so the salt got to it somewhat. Frame is still excellent, the body/bed is looking pretty rough again. But truthfully it was more or less that way when I got the truck, just hidden. It’ll get some love, planning to pull the engine at some point to reseal it again and give everything a good once over.

Might need some new leaf springs at some point too.

Since fuel tanks have been the hot topic round here lately, I replaced both of them in 2017, six years of daily driving including Missouri winters, did not paint them or coat them and still look like new.

No, mine (my sons I suppose) is 21 light blue metallic primary color. And straight 29 Dark blue.
I went back n forth with the dark blue. Almost ordered some metallic powder to mix in or was going to use a Chrysler color Patriot blue pearl.
I lucked out with prep on the K20. It only had one coat of paint on it.

That's what I wanna do when the day comes to paint mine, stick with 21/29 but add some metallic and/or pearl to both to spice it up a tad

Thanks this is my favorite part of the hobby making something and seeing it come together I'm still amateur when it comes to welding/fabrication but projects like this let me get some practice in not sure if I'll get the full weld up done today, tomorrow says rain and I have a big job doing a water pump and timing chains on a Ford 3.7(sucky job but its stuff like that is paying for my projects) so today is the day or it's going to get pushed back to next week
