So I got under and found that the catalytic converter is directly in front of the drivers side front tank strap. The rear strap seems to be easily accesible Please see first 3 pics:

Well I guess the upside is if you have to pull the cat you get to inspect it lol clogged cat can cause some issues to poor performance or stalling

If I am taking the cat off, which I understand can be a PIA, should I try a trick I saw from a guy on yew toob that says "Rev Your Engines"? If it looks clogged you can soak the cat in dish soap and water overnight to clear the honeycomb...
I most likely could benefit from a new cat/exhaust. Pretty sure there is an exhaust leak somewhere but overall it sounds great with the 350. What do y'all say?

I recognized that is Scotty try it out I always clean them out with a screw driver and hammer to each their own lol

A cat a what? Fck, 5 min with a sawzall including putting anew blade in it will provide access to the bolts!
Plus it looks like it’s rubbing in the frame. It needs to go. lol!

I wanted to "restore" the straps before putting in the new tanks. Pulled the whole thing down easily.

Your tanks seem to be much further forward under the cab than mine. Difference between 2x4 and 4x4 I guess.

When I replaced my tank for the LS swap I coated the new tank with several coats of bed liner/undercoat, same with the straps separately, I then added a pretty thick strip of adhesive backed rubber to the tank in the strap locations. I went a bit overkill and added some of the same rubber to the areas where the straps bolted to the frame as well. My thought process was to dampen any vibrations that might come from the pump. Like I said, overkill but I was there and it didn't really cost me much other than a bit of time.

Where's the best place to get new tanks? I see em for sale all over the place.. just want to make sure I get a good quality one with the right fitment.

Can confirm. I went with Spectra because they were well reviewed, priced right and "domestically" produced so no chineseum.

Ha I actually was serious. Obviously unrestored but looks like great condition from the pics. If the tank bracket bolts came out without much fanfare then I’d call that clean.
Regarding replacing the rock guards or not, Trapping debris that falls between the bed and cab is the primary culprit.
Example I had 1 leaking tank on the 86. That side was packed full of vintage mud and debris where yours is rusted. The other side was clean and the tank looked like new.
In hindsight, I think it would be beneficial for anyone wanting long service life out of new or existing tanks to install a shield over the top of the tanks at the gap between bed and cab. This would prevent debris from getting in there.
And it happens quick and easy. Just one load of beauty bark where the loader op overfilled and it spilled over the front of the bed deposited a lot of mulch right back into the trouble area. (I put the tank guards back on.).
