I performed some basic daily driver maintenance this weekend. I gave her a much-needed oil change. I filled it up with Shell Rotella 15-40 and a Wix filter. Replaced the wipers with new 18" ones. I couldn't believe the price for wipers. I paid $ 14 each. They went up to $40 each Ouch!
I remember when you could by the refills and not have to buy the holder. I didn't see the refills at O' Reilly's.

I also replaced one of the washer lines it dry rotted. I also found the bothersome exhaust leak. I sprayed some soapy water around the gaskets. The top of the header gasket at cylinders 3 and 5 is blown out. I'll fix it this coming week.
I get rain-x wipers at dollar store for like $9. Might as well save a little $

looked at the drivers tank yesterday just to study and see what I could find. Found a rusty pin hole in the back corner. I will try to post photos soon. That tank has to go so I want to drop it while trouble shooting the passenger tank that kind of works, examine the parts and then order new while the old are out.

@WFarm , @Ajax19 @Tank6x2 , @fofiddyfo a couple of questions before I start:
1.) Would it be ok for the system/engine if I were to need to drive the truck with one tank out? The switching valve is and will remain in right side mode. I am only asking because I assume the switch being on the other tank will keep it closed off from letting fuel out on the drivers side. Since there is a pinhole and there was not much left in the tank the last I used it I am leaning on it being 99% empty.
2.) Should I cap the lines with line plugs or finger condom type stoppers?
3.) I should paint the tank. Should I sand it and then paint or just hit with black rattle can or Rustproofing paint ?
3 - rust proof or rust o Leum paint always good idea,
2 - simple bolt with a shoulder and a gear clamp generally all I ever used
1 - been there before, long as the switch doesn’t get flipped your fine and if it does you’ll just need to crank the engine and reprime the line via mechanical pump on the engine

So I got under and found that the catalytic converter is directly in front of the drivers side front tank strap. The rear strap seems to be easily accesible Please see first 3 pics:

How am I going to get to that straps bolts? Will it be ok to take the cat off to take the tank out? There seems to be a shield above the cat. I suppose taking the cat out to get this tank down will answer the question about my cat causing the studder, unless I have to cut in to the cat to find out if it's clogged.

I decided to take the plastic cover off the tank to get a better look and get that out the way when I finally am able to spend enough time taking the tank down. Hopefully some on Saturday and then maybe the rest on Tuesday next week.
Look what was inside the tank shield! Look at that rusty ass tank... she's gotta go!

I am fairly certain I won't be putting the plastic cover back on, and will be ordering new straps.

I don't recall mine being hampered the cat, but I have a short wide 2wd so placement could be different. This is unfortunately the best shot I have of that area...

I feel ya. One of mine had a hole from rocks between the shield. I dumped all that dirt and debris out of the shield and tank, on one side! It was black asphalt before I tipped it out. I did choose to reuse the shields though for now.

You don't undue the straps on the truck, you unbolt the brackets from the frame, undue your straps on the ground,do not forget to undue the tank ground wire. Take pruning shears underneath with you you are going to reach up and cut the sender lines as soon as you can move the tank.

I wanted to "restore" the straps before putting in the new tanks. Pulled the whole thing down easily.

Okay well my expierience has been dropping the tank with bracket and straps as a unit is the easy way,and you could still restore the straps on the ground. I'm confused you brought it all down as a unit.
I revised my earlier statement. It took me a minute to comprehend what you had said, lol.

I meant getting the brackets off the frame. Yes my intent is to keep the holding brackets strapped to the tank while lowering. And I also meant getting new brackets and straps when I said I am getting new straps. I was collectively grouping the whole piece together(straps, brackets, bolts). I don't believe I have access to the front bracket bolts without moving the cat, or at least the cover from above the cat.

@Ricko1966 , I remember the first time you posted the pic of the tank down with brackets the first time. I was looking. And it was probably you, but I also remember the pic of the new tank ready to go up in brackets, strapped in, and hoses attached to sending unit ports.

If I am taking the cat off, which I understand can be a PIA, should I try a trick I saw from a guy on yew toob that says "Rev Your Engines"? If it looks clogged you can soak the cat in dish soap and water overnight to clear the honeycomb...
I most likely could benefit from a new cat/exhaust. Pretty sure there is an exhaust leak somewhere but overall it sounds great with the 350. What do y'all say?
