I tackled the intake gasket replacement on Saturday. 8 hours later...I was headed back home. I didn't get to time it with a light, just by ear as my dogs & I were both getting hungry! By the time I got home, my idle was high, and it was lacking power, so I feared I had a bad air leak because I over-torqued my intake bolts a bit. Visually checked for fluid leaks, but everything was dry & normal looking. Sunday, I headed back to my buddy's shop to throw the light on it, and realized my high-idle was due to my cruise linkage pulling the throttle open. Got it timed, topped it off with more coolant, now it's idling like a champ and running great! Also found out that my wiper motor plug had somehow came unplugged, hence why my new wiper/cruise switch wasn't working correctly. i plugged it back in and VOILA! All wiper functions now work perfectly again! I did not know that they could even work without that plugged in, but it must be a secondary plug for the intermittent module?? Now, I still have to troubleshoot my brake switch to see if that's why my cruise isn't working. We got about 8-10" of new snow, and I drove the '87 today and it ran like a top and got around pretty good. It feels good driving these old trucks with all their primitive features & functions like lock-in hubs & a transfer case lever. She shifts in & out of 4WD on the fly greatly!
