Finally got to putting in the new latches for my vent windows. Old pitted chrome out. The plastic and rubber in the old ones were crumbling away every time it was touched. New chrome in. After finally getting the drivers side figured out I was excited to get the passenger side in and discovered the previous owner sealed the bottom of the passenger side vent shut with some type of silicone or caulk to keep the breeze out I reckon.
(Sad face emoji here)you can see it in the passenger side pic. So I figured out how to install the new latch without opening the vent and settled on one working vent with a new latch and one sealed vent with a new latch. At some point in the future I am replacing or refurbishing the whole assemblies.

Um, unless it's a camera angle thing, but it doesn't appear to be, those vent window latches are not correct. They're supposed to rest on metal between the window and vent window, not reach past that metal to rest on the window.

No metal from the latch touches glass. The latch swings back past a jut out on the stricker plate and clicks at the bottom of the jut out. If you look close you can see how the striker plate has a "ramp and drop off" jut where the nub behind the latch handle lands when closed. At least this is where the old latches landed and where I assumed they are supposed to stop in full closed/locked position. The lock button does pop out here. 1987 maybe slightly different or am I totally wrong?

After opting to drive the truck today I immediately took a look while it was warming up and nudged the latches up to the top of the "ramp" on the striker plates and the push button popped out to be able to depress easily. This seems to be the way it should work. The button is easy to push, not hard. Makes sense. Thanks guys, this is why I am on this forum!

You have whole replacement assemblies or latches?
Whole replacements. I know a guy that has a bunch of them in a storage room. So I got both sides. They work right now but need to be replaced. I'm waiting to find a new driver's door then I'll do it. I have a pass door in my shed bit need drivers side door.

Any chance your guy has drivers and passengers for a 1987 in good shape, that you could get a hold of and ship?

Now I am on a computer, looking at the photo again, I see a nub that appears to be resting on the "catch" of that metal I was talking about. Is that correct?

I have a set but it'd be expensive to ship to you. Power or manual??

I'll see if he does. I'm pretty sure he does. I'll let you know when I find out.

Thanks @mtbadbob ! Actually I was looking for vent window assemblies to replace the ones I have.
Here's the 2 I bought. Much better shape than what I have on there. As soon as I get the new door I'll put them on.
