Put a new fuel filter on the CUCV (again, just replaced it a few weeks ago), it was leaking, so thought I got a bad one. It looked fine, but swapped it anyways. Now the damm thing is leaking worse :(

I'm guessing there is something wrong with the housing, its dripping between the housing and filter element, but I didn't have time to check it out. Guess that will be a project for tbis week.

Interesting fuel filter story for ya. Back I don't know maybe in the 90's I had a 70's class c RV in the shop for a tune up, it was on the Dodge chassis which takes a filter down on the frame rail, it's a metal (or plastic) housing filter, we also often use them for a add on filters. Any how customer calls shortly after picking up the RV, he'd made it to the highway where it started stumbling and stalled. He said it was like a vapor lock but it was only 50F that day. Shop paid to have it towed off the highway and back in. Once it was off the tow truck it fired right up. I drove it around in town and let it idle at the shop and it never missed a beat. So I gathered supplies and headed for the highway, sure enough I made it thought the onramp and up to speed when it started bogging and stumbling like it was lacking fuel, then stalled. Pulled the dome off and managed to get it on to the shoulder by spraying starting fluid into the carb. Well long story short the new fuel filter media wasn't bonded properly, it blew apart and went up stream where it partially blocked the fuel pump inlet. Dang fuel filters!

Vacuum sensor switch O-ring in the filter base.

New gas tanks, new sending units, new front leaf springs, front shocks, steering gear, tie rod, pitman arm, ball joints, hv oil pump, rear main seal, transmission filter and flush, starter solenoid, found out the original 400 is still in the truck! Took the camper shell off, and put a stereo in it. Custom auto sounds old style Bluetooth stereo, 2 6x9 Kickers, new duel voice coil in dash speaker and 2 8inch powered subs mounted behind the seat.

Still need to figure out why the gas gauge is not working right, new rear shocks, and a new exhaust with glass packs, then off to body work and paint.

Thanks, that's exactly what I needed. I thought it might be under the filter but didn't see any wires. I check it right now.

Make a set of long jumper wires like the ones below, but long enough to go from the sender to the gauge. I made a set using speaker wire. Use it to test here and there until you find the problem. With power ON = gauge working or not. With power OFF = use OHM meter to test the wiring. You choose which way to test, but make sure power is OFF when using the ohm function.

First thing I'd check is the ground at the sender. Run the jumper from your ground (disconnected from vehicle) on the sender to the battery, any change on the gauge?

Well I tried to polish out the headlight trim rings. After about 45 minutes of polishing, they didn't look much better. So I sandblasted them down, and powder coated them. Going to run up to the hardware store and get some new screws, and put my LED headlights that I got for my birthday together...

Well hell put this in the wrong thread. Can one of you peoples that can move stuff put it in the "What have you done to your square lately"

Hey Jeff, I might have another Short box step side in the works. The man I bought my 76 from came over to my house last Friday and said he had another one to sell me. It’s a 77 with a lift kit and factory roll bar in the bed. I looked at it on Sunday and told him I was in. Hes getting over a cold and won’t be at his office for a few days. He’s a car dealer. I hope to have it this week. Anyway, stay safe.

Shades of @SirRobyn0 here. Changed # 8 with a good used plug I had as I thought I was feeling a slight miss at idle. Plug had like a white glaze on the electrode arm that appeared to have reduced the gap by half. Put the feeler gauge to it and off came the glaze.

Fired her up, still a bit of a miss, so# 6 gets the treatment. Same glaze.

Not a perfect idle, but for a 122K oil burning SOB good enuff.
