Nice work! Those brakes will last a good long time. While I enjoy the utter simplicity of disk brakes, the old 3/4 and 1 ton drums have some serious stopping power.
An aside, I knew the brakes worked really well on the blue truck when we bought it last year. Could see new calipers up front and the drums looked clean on the outside and spied new Nails in the backing plates. Presumed someone at least put new pads on.
To my surprise and pleasure, finally popped the rear wheels off a couple months ago when I was painting the chassis, and the back brakes looked identical to your pic, save for a very small amount of brake dust. Everything was new, right down to the springs and hardware. Drums slid right off with just a little wiggle. (Sf axle)

People rag on drum brakes on cars, probably all from bad experience with unassisted systems on older cars. Most people don't realize that big trucks are primarily equipped with drum brakes and they provide plenty of stopping power for a lot of weight. Biggest thing is proper adjustment, and on our trucks the use of heavy duty shoes. They'll last a seriously long time. I usually get around 100K out of a set vs about 30-40K out of organic shoes.

Finished up some frame painting on the frame , installed my rear shocks . Replaced my rear brake lines , with SS
Next run the rest up toward the front . That should be fun . Got them from U line

Finally got an hour to spend on my truck. Got the front wheels off, and started replacing the ball joints, drag link and tie rod ends. Didn’t realize how wore out they actually were. Should handle like a new one when I’m done

I ordered the Kilmat from Amazon. They have 2 thicknesses. 50 or 80 mil.
I got the 50, but had enough extra & some of another brand to double up a few places and put some in the doors.
A box (47 sheets) will do a standard cab 1 time.

@hoagster I also got the Killmat for sound deadening from amazon, but also got a closed cell foam layer to go over the top of that for added insulation. Both were ordered on amazon for a total of about $150 to have enough for the entire cab of my truck and probably most of my commuter car as well. I'll likely need another set of killmat for the other car, but the insulation roll is enough for 100sq. ft, which should be plenty for both cars.

Smart man. You have no idea how many people I see tear into a snotty POS with all kinds of road grit and slime on it. It not only makes them gross to work on, it pretty much guarantees you're going to contaminate the job. Someone pre-cleaning is the exception when it should be the rule.

Yeah, that thing was such a little ball of grime, I was going to risk getting that on the inside. Makes it way easier to work on too.
Cleaned it more after that pic, used a scraper knife and some foamy degreaser. Down to the original paint again.
When I'm done, I'm gonna paint it a nice Chevy orange.
Started tearing it down a bit more before I had to leave.

More stuff that I'm hysterical about but is old hat to you guys. I haven't done drum brakes since the Fall of 1987 (no joke). Took me about 3+ hrs over 2 days but figured it out. They'll never look like this again. All new parking brake cables as well.

Which means I could put the drums on and mount the rear wheels again. Finally cookin with gas. Next up is the drive train. Woohoo!

I got these as a discontinued rim....but still see them in stock, so who knows.
