So when I get in the truck in the mornings it can be difficult to shift the manual tranny into any gear until things warm up. Pushing the clutch pedal, it travels 3-4" before I feel any resistance. I'm wondering if it's a clutch adjustment, low fluid level, or both.
Today I adjusted the clutch pedal to only move about an inch before feeling resistance. Huge difference...
I picked up a gallon of 80w-90 and drained the tranny. Put the whole gallon (and a skosh more) in until the trickle from the fill hole started. Took it out for a short trip and there's a definite difference.
When I got back to the house, I drained the drain pan into the 80w-90 jug, and found it was holding 3 quarts instead of 4 1/2 quarts.
I've owned the truck for the last 18 years and have never changed the tranny fluid. Surprisingly it wasn't a very dark color. Once I retire I'll probably dig into possible leaks, although 1 quart low in 18+ years might be hard to find. LOL
Tomorrow morning will be the answer to whether the work has solved the problem.

Finally put on the spoiler that I’ve wanted on all of my k5’s and this suburban but none had them. Next is the correct roof rack that I already have waiting. I pulled down the headliner so I can redo that. I’m replacing the expansion valve on rear a/c and replacing the blower motor and fans out back too while I’ve got the headliner and trim down.

Tore into the 79s 350 to see what the F was up. Wherever the previous engine can from, someone had obviously put in some work, 462 heads, comp cam magnum pushrods, bolt one’s etc...from the noise it was making, there’s def a spun bearing and some sorta knocking too..throwing a known good 350 in there next week while I dissect the old 350 and see if it’s salvageable

Can definitely see how far along I got cleaning up the firewall. Old drivetrain is getting yanked Monday, and then the 5.3 will go in shortly after.

me and my brother pulled in his Cheyenne, replaced the motor mounts and fixed his squealing brakes. Long overdue... and yes it is the same photo from the other thread, didn't take any new ones

changed the spectre air filter yesterday. I went to clean it and noticed it had rubbed a hole through the filter material. Adjusted it away from the bracket it rubbed.

Today the washer fluid reservoir came in. Took the old one out and couldn't believe the cracks it had. Took a small screw driver and gently stabbed it....damn thing fell apart. I suspect the coolant fluid reservoir is about the same. We'll replace that when needed.

Repair once, replace on the next crack.

I'm not going to let this catastrophic oil consumption beat me, so nothing but the best for 'Ol Yeller (You don't need none of those damn fancy detergents).

$1.39 a quart at my local gas station, I bought them out of the ****. The truck has to last me just a couple more weeks until I have the time to drop in the new motor.a
Hah if that leak gets too expensive just do what I resorted to long ago- I once had a POS that leaked so much oil I resorted to just pouring used motor oil in from all my other cars. When I ran out I put the word out to all my friends and they were happy to hand over gallons and gallons of used oil they had laying around. I'm sure some of it had gasoline and carb cleaner in it, but it all leaked the same. The really thin **** from people who had hondas ran right through it, but hey it was still wet with oil for a little while lol

What are they asking for it?

There is a 77 Burb locally for sale, looks rust free, 454 & TH400 trans, 2WD with barn doors (which I dislike), and they are asking $2,500 for it. I would love to get it, but don't want the wrath of my wife coming down on me!
Sounds like a good orice

I bet!

Went to install vent window seals and realized I didn't knock the rust off and paint the metal. Knocked that out as well as putting naval jelly/rust remover on the chrome tab the latch pushes against. Forgot how well that stuff works.

Once it dries, I'll have to remove some paint from the chrome as the tape failed in a spot.
