Well,I haven’t pulled the trigger on it,because I’m still trying to decide....but I’m looking at going with a big block and pulling out my 383.

As it stands right now,looking at 454 and 502 crate engines.Anyone personally have experience with Blue Print?I remember several years ago their reputation wasn’t very good.Supposedly that has changed.

I prefer GM Performance

Ive thought about finding a 4 bolt main VI 454 and rebuilding,but that’s also kinda sketchy if you don’t know the motor’s history.Rather have a new 4 bolt main block.Thinking of using my 383 for another project,but that’s later.

Anyway,recommendations,comments,suggestions,I appreciate it.

Well, I pulled the diff cover and got a nice surprise. Spider gears are trash. Ones completely gone and the bottom one's chipped. Perfect.
Quick video call to Vince and looks like I'll be replacing them here soon myself. Thanks bud for the help.

Glad I looked in there because I couldn't tell that it busted. Drove it today to get the oil and no problem at all lol.

At least you only blew 1 spider, last time my rear went i blew both apart and the truck wouldnt move.

This is the story of my life brother. Somehow managed to botch my distributer install. Now I have to do it the long hard way....and....its supposed to rain all week.

I hear ya. It rained all last week and looks to do it again.

I went the route of getting a donor vehicle and rebuilding the Gen VI 454. It was $500 for the whole driving vehicle and cost around $2200 for the complete rebuild including all the machine work, balancing, and parts. You can see most of the details in my engine build thread in my sig. That doesn't include anything you would need to do to either run the fuel injection or run a separate fueling solution since none of the factory Gen VI BBC blocks came with a fuel pump boss. The GM Performance Gen VI blocks have a fuel pump provision and the heads will also have a heat crossover to help cold weather running.

My donor motor had 288,000 hard miles on it and still looked great internally. One thing to note on the rebuild is that you can't use the standard BBC main bearings in a Gen VI. You need to use the chevrolet performance bearings at least on #1 and #5, as they are different on the GEN VI or you wont get the right bearing clearances.

I appreciate the response.Sounds like a good route to take.There’s a few 454s for sale locally.Only one VI motor,and then one sitting in a TBI suburban.I reason I was also leaning toward GM Performance is provisions for a mechanical fuel pump.

Got it....

that was not fun. Goofed and left the breaker bar hanging on the bolt for the ballencer pulley. Lol made such a HORRIFIC sound. But thankfully it did no damage.

She seems to be running EXTREMELY well compared to before. But still going to get it timed this evening. My light is at the shop.

Made a lotta moves on the projects and nothing on the daily driver
-79..new fuel lines, new sending unit, rebuilt the Holley, new plugs and wires, new PS pump, pulley, and the correct bracketry, went to fire it and the mechanical fuel pumps bad...used an electric pump feeding from a gas can and got it fired, annnnd the previous owner’s motor is trash. So bought another 350 to put in it today...this project truck has rapidly turned into a full on restoration where the only original parts are the frame, body, bench and cab. Everything had been replaced with new or nos parts...fixin to be a brand new 1979 c1500.
