The problem with most of this stuff is you don't figure out it's wrong until you get it and it's easier to make it work than send it back and continue the search.

LOL- exactly.

And, in typical fashion, I found out about the "good stuff " from you too late.

Last, but not least, it turns out my guy had some like the stuff you got, but he did not think he had enough.

Well, I said this one was going to be a continuation of the one I had in high school.

And, that one was not 100% ...

Installed the new crate 350 in my dads Jimmy. Hooked everything up and broke it in. Went awesome. Fired up like it was running the hour before. Ran it 15 minutes at 2-3grand. No leaks, didn’t get hot went mint. Let it cool. Set base timing then went out for a break in ride. Dumped oil, changed filter and oil and put another 30 or so miles on it today varying speeds and load on motor. Few more trips like that this week and back to regular duty. My dad is excited to be driving it again. It’s been down with a blown head gasket or cracked head since last fall.

Worked on the suburban a bit too. Replaced the tired 12si alternator of unknown amperage with a new rebuilt 94amp unit. Was tired of loss of charging at idle and the volt gauge heading to the left. I had already done the big three, plus an extra 10 gauge power feed to the bulkhead, 4 gauge alternator charging wire to battery and even another 12 gauge wire back feeding the fuse panel to make sure there’s no voltage drop at connector through the firewall.

I did notice that the new alternator Came with a slightly smaller pulley. Which I was happy to see. It also was nice to replace the old worn out pulley. It would slip and Screech often and I hate belt screech! Now with headlights on, a/c on max, fog lights on and wipers going I’m still getting 13 volts at idle and anything over idle is at 14.6 volts. I’ll still do a headlight relay set up at some point. Probably when I switch over to some better headlights but for now I at least know I’ve helped the electrical system a ton.

Got both sides of my door seals replaced. After taking off all of the interior pieces it was amazing how much dirt was under the carpet.

Also put some PEX in the door so I don't have to tell people to wind up to close the door anymore.

This is looking great just went all the way back from beginning of your build thread, really cool stuff.

Question on your sand blasting - last time I tried that indoors it was an unbelievable mess to do, is there anything you are doing outdoors to reduce the debris or reclaim the sand or the impact of the black sand isn't much worse than normal sand? And have any issues with warping from the heat?

The black diamond media is available thru Tractor supply and it works just as good as sand. It was recommended to me by a local body shop. It works real well. I did recover media out of the inside of the cab and re-use it. You are right it is a mess that is why I'm doing it outside. Now I'm working on getting all of the media out of the hidey holes.

Didn't have any trouble with warping, I have the air pressure set at 70psi and using a 1/4 in nozzle. It has been a journey.

What's it cost - any idea ? $ 3.99 for the Permatex kit at OReallys, and the ability to bitch when it doesn't work = PRICELESS.:dogpile:

We just mounted ours to the trim.
We had the same experience with the O'Reillys Permatex stuff.
It just fell off a couple days later.

Screws in the trim, never will fall off and works just fine.

Picked up another original piece for the 79. Also pulled a completely wrecked original grille for some donor horizontal fins. I’ll be filling that crack on the bottom right as well as shooting some new paint on there

@Catbox you put some screw holes into your trim ? That puts some holes in my heart lol.

Gotta make it safe to drive for the kid though.

While I like the clean look of things, this mod didn't bother me one little bit.

While I like the clean look of things, this mod didn't bother me one little bit.
Only saying that cuz I found a wrecked gmc that still had some perfect rear pillars, and one side trim piece, but the front and back headliner trim pieces had all sorts of aftermarket accessories drilled into em. Safety Third tho!

A pair of these 73-80 bumper guards came in today...turns out green jewelers rouge cleans up the hazed our chrome and gives it a nice polish too. Here’s a before + after
