Got a new fan clutch for it today. Ever wonder why the blades aren't equally spaced? I did and do.

The screws and one stud with a nut on it were all ****** up so I tried tapping them and was only able to get one fully tapped. I was scared of snapping off the tap bc it was getting tuff to turn.

After all that **** the new screws they gave me with the clutch were too short. ****!! So I'm thinking, I'm gonna just get a new water pump too. Can't hurt and not that hard to change. Cheap too.

I have pondered that about the spacing and how it stays balanced.

So, why are they not equally spaced?

Equal spaced creates a frequency kind of like a siren. It's to reduce noise.
Mine sure is loud!! I couldn't imagine it being louder than it is!! Lol

But, I've had a flex fan that *** equally spaced and sounded fine.

Maybe get one that isn't and compare the difference.

Of course, if you're running Cherry Bombs and super lug tires, then maybe you won't hear it.

Since you mention it, it's very rare that I can distinctly hear the fan in my truck. Granted, that noise and vibration factory under the hood may have something to do with that. All that being considered, I don't need anything to contribute more noise either.

But the times I do remember distinctly hearing it have been when the alternator belt broke and wrapped itself around the fan clutch and locked the fan to the shaft. You could sure hear that.

Maybe there's something up with your fan clutch?

I don't doubt it's for reducing fan noise. I've just never heard it.

Just got a new clutch for it.

I hear it badly on my '90 GMT 400. That thing whirs like crazy going down the road at speed. I chock it up to short tires, 3.73's and no overdrive.
