Started my stereo system install. I couldn’t bring myself to cut the factory dash so I’m putting my head unit in the console. Along with some 4” speakers, my amp, cap, some usb power ports, some blue LED floor lights. I’ve got 2 old school JBL 10” subs, some nice 6x9’s in boxes out back. And new speakers in the 4x10 and 3.5” stock locations also. Been 9 months with no stereo in this truck. Can’t take it anymore.

Last week the boy found a set of Flex A Lite electric fans in the junkyard and brought them home.
Saturday he started the installation of the new setup.

Keep in mind he is 17 and I let him do all the stuff on his own.
There is hope for the future generations...

Here is where we started, a very congested engine bay that houses the big block with broken air conditioning.

We made the executive decision to remove the A/C lines and condenser.
If we decide to fix the A/C down the road, more than likely we will be putting in all new stuff as originality has no place on this truck anymore.

Out came the clutch fan, this will be carried in the truck for a while until the new fans prove themselves. Shroud was pulled as well and put into storage.

I was in his head.
He made sure they all fit and were accessible and clear for the wiring.
Battery to circuit breaker to relay to fan control.

All wired up.
He drew it all out after I described what I wanted and how it should be done to work.
We matched the wire that gauge that originally came on the fans.

After we got it all fixed and tested, we figured out that the Ford starter solenoid is not for continuous duty use as a fan relay. Today he is going to be switching it out for a GM Fuel Pump relay that is rated at 25 amps. That should work much better.

Here we have the fans installed and waiting for the engine to get up to temp.
Takes forever as these things run cold blooded.
We followed the instructions and placed the temp sensor bulb next to the water inlet hose on the radiator.

Let the engine warm up and watch the temp gauge to see when it gets to its normal position and adjust the temp switch to turn on at that temp.

You can also see that we moved the negative ground wire from the alternator bracket to the chassis ground. The ground strap we put in last week will take the voltage from there to the alternator.

Removing the A/C hoses and moving that wire cleaned stuff up pretty well.

Next up is to put in a better coolant catch tank from a 90's truck.
One that catches and returns the coolant will be much better than the tank that came on the truck.
Here you can see that Max has moved the second charcoal canister to the core support.
He will be moving the window washer tank closer to the cab and then putting the new puke tank where the washer tank was.

Cleaned out the shop so I could get the parts burb in. Will start tearing into it today. Keeping the front doors for my 80, tires, wheels, and the tranny for one of the Blazers. Will part out whats left if anyone needs anything.

tune up, ps filter + new return hose, new grounds, new battery cable(half way), distributor advance weight clean up + timing adjustment(not final), punched a headlight out accidentally, removed extra reservoir doing nothing, cleaned up choke ground, diagnosed alternator and determined its junk, broke nipple off radiator, etc

Got my tailgate lights today! I’m forced to recreate my own dually tailgate because I’ve been unable to locate one. The only thing I need or this project is the connector where it plugs into the harness. It’s the same rubber encased spade connector that the license plate lights use so if anyone knows where to locate one it would be greatly appreciated otherwise it’s a trip to the junkyard.

Just fixin little hacks here n there from the previous previous owner. Guy I bought it from only changed the oil and drove it around some. Speaking of hacks, been trying to pookie up a very small leak in the t-case gasket on the side of the case. I hate half @ssed repairs but not really into pulling and splitting the case right now for 2.7 drips of oil a day!
Checked diffs while under the truck. Front is nice n clean like new looking, like all the other fluids on the truck (bonus). Rear was a mild milkshake....wth. Brakes look fresh and work great, appear to have been done recently, new bleeder screws and fluid super clean. Yet I bet noone had checked the rear diff in many years...
Well at least the last guy didn't use a gasket, but the 2 tone rtv sealant was a nice touch to keep the bent cover from leaking! Some wire brushing, sanding the scuzzy looking undercoating off the cover, quick shot of rattlecan black and a shiny new $8 Felpro gasket (and cover flange straightened), that will be mucho bettero.

Replaced my oil pressure sending unit as it decided to blow out during a drive to the coast and leak alot of oil EVERYWHERE. First one I've had that actually blew out instead of just the threads leaking.
