IMHO, ....

My truck has had a cross-bed toolbox since almost day one. When it gets refurbed the toolbox goes. Aside from the fact that even on a longbed it makes the bed look short, it's a massive cr@p collector. I could probably lighten the truck by 200 lbs by getting rid of extraneous junk I burn fuel to carry around in that box.

Rails vs nothing... I have a weakness for the classics, so both would be okay. But there's a lot to be said for bone stock. Quick story. When we bought the pickup we were looking to do all kinds of customizing to make it stand out. Most of what we did was cosmetic, but some was more involved. In the short and long run, it turned out the truck stood out on it's own. And it still does. Rust and all. You have a good looking truck. Don't overthink it.
I'm with you Ox. Back in late 70's and early 80's I wanted so bad to customize my trucks so badly but could not afford it. Now I love the stock look. I want to find some wide steel rims and hubcaps. Yes you have a good looking truck James.

Thought I heard a slight vibration under engine load. Guess I needed to loctite my collector bolts. Did that and checked torque on other stuff.

I think y’all have talked me into keeping the stock look. Probably going to sell the toolbox, I like being able to use the whole bed especially since it’s a short bed. Might use the bed rails, but only because they were a factory option.

Did a quick and very dirty paint job on my toolbox to see how it would look. Just can’t make up my mind, toolbox, bed rails or nothing. Also removed my fog lights and began the process of mounting some backup lights under the rear bumper. Also tightened up my upper shock mounts again. I think the hole has been wallowed out and now I can’t get them to stay tight. I may have to weld a washer on each side so I can have a round mounting hole again.

I like the rails, but if I were running rails I would get some black walnut and have strips about 1/2 - 3/4 inch high by 1.5 - 2 inches wide. A good tight-grained wood that looks good and won't splinter easily.

Well so the autocross thing didn't work out 100%, as the track width to height was out of range (too tall and too narrow), it wasn't able to pass tech and therefore unable to be autocrossed, however I was able to change class and co-drive my buddy's CRX (basically make a run, change the number and swap seats and make another run). Got one mostly dry lap in. Was 1 second slower than my friend, which isn't too bad considering he has been driving that car for over 2 years and I have driven it around 1200 feet in that time. Then it downpoured and continued, but they kept the event going. Friend dnf'd 4/5 runs and I finished all 4 of my runs, even with spinning out and hitting 3 cones.

Also the flood waters has receded enough so I was able to check on my 79s frame, exactly as I left it, might actually be cleaner now than it was before..

Yeah, since the rear track width was narrower than the height of the roof it was out of range on the chart thing. Which I understand the reasoning, but it is stupid as the roof at most would be 100 ish pounds so I would think the more fair place to check the height would be at or a few inches above the top of the bedside, as that is where most of the weight is.

The irony is if I cut the roof off it would pass or using wheel spacers to widen the track width, but both of those make it far more dangerous (imo) than it would stock. [emoji2369]

Got some more hoses and fittings to finish revision 2 of my catch can setup, I need to get a different 1” barbed 90 to eliminate the bulky stuff I’ve got going on and I can turn the valve around and run a short vertical hose.

Exactly this. I went to a local to me autox and ran across a guy running a lowered 67 long box c10 with wide slicks (granted probably shorter tires then yours), a plain carbed SBC, and a th400. Didnt do too bad when he kept it from flodding and stalling on fast, sharp left to right corners.

After looking at this picture enough... i feel i should get a big GMSB decal made into a magnet and stick it on my truck.... my lil decal is too small. I also think there should be a how did you find GMSB question when you sign up, so we know if people see our logo someplace or if they find it by google, or if they see a decal on someones truck o_Olol or if someone actually tells them about it when they meet another square owner like i do...ok ill shut up:blah:
