I have a new starter, alternator, blower fan and power steering pump headed my way.I got roughly 8 years out of all those components, except the hvac fan (original). The rest was remans from oreilly’s! I installed when I put in crate engine. Not bad. They’ll all be returned for spares (lifetime warranty)

I went with new USA made components. The first issue I had was my alternator took a dump.Switched it out already and the reman replacement lasted a week.It gave up on 2nd to last day of deer hunt.So now I have another reman. It’s pretty much giving me the evil eye on start up,then mellows out.And the starter is sounding like a garbage disposal for a second after starting up.

So all new headed my way.PowerMaster.We’ll see.

Anyway,I had a clanking coming from my front passenger side when going over bumps, rocks.Determined the noise was coming from the shocks. What it was,is the inner sleeves was to small for the factory bolt.So I didn’t use them. This was causing pre mature wear of the bushings.Installed new bushings and made sleeves from leaf spring sleeves.Fixed the issue.Does anyone know if the spacer on the upper shock mount goes against the frame or does the shock bushing go against the frame? Was looking at the angle and it seems like it would be better for the shock to be against the frame?
whats wrong with the PS Pump

It has never been the most powerful compared to other squarebody trucks I’ve owned.Mighg as well.

I know you have quite the squarebody knowledge. What do you say to those upper spacers?

NOW LETS TALK ABOUT THAT POWER STEERING PUMP
lol caps. Ill leave it for dramatic effect.
you say its low on power, how big is your crank pulley and your ps pulley?
No squealing right? Fluid look okay? Does the pulley oscillate or does it seem to do ok stability while runing?
What climate you live in, what fluid do you use?
All steering components greased and not binding(ball joints or kingpins (i guess?))

etc. deets.

if you have the pump off at any point, remove the valve on the back and see what it looks like its been up to

sometimes the thing sticks in its bore (above the spring) and gets worn or etc

it actually does squeal every now and then when cold,or at full lock.Valvoline power steering fluid.I live in a very hot and dry climate.(mild summer this year,so nice).Steering components and kingpins are tip top.I completely rebuilt all of it (2019-2020)my maintenance schedule is impeccable and only use the best I can get.

Pulleys are standard small block Chevy, first gen.Aluminum.Summit brand. The power steering pump
Has the original steel pulley that was on the original 1984 350’s power steering pump.

I’ve never inspected the pump itself,or took it apart.Like most remans I figured it’s POS.I do value your insight and will try any recommendations and troubleshooting you suggest

so youre saying the crank pulley very possibly could be larger in diameter than the one that originally came on the engine, the groove that drives the ps pump that is?

also, its not the original pump? it itsel is a reman?
do you have your original pump still? Did the new pump come with a new flow control valve or did you transfer it?

and when I say flow valve, all that I really am concerned about is the flow valve and spring, BUT the hose fitting CAN be a big deal if the orifice opening is too small. that determines the flow. and flow being too low, say, for a general duty saginaw rebuild for cars, trucks, etc would probably cut it in a balljoint k10 and a impala etc, but it maybe is not up to snuff for the kingpin 1 ton with maybe big tires on it?

285 x 75.Like a narrow 33” tire. No,I didn’t transfer anything from one pump to the other, other than the pulley.Crank pulley diameter is the same, only difference being material. My last pickup was a dedicated offroad truck and I had good success with PSC.However, that build had x-o steering.Hopefully this new pump will give similar results with a stock steer setup.

what kind of flow control valve is the PSC sporting

do you have hydroboost as well?

PSI and GPM are helpful to know but i am sure they will be enough, but flow and pressure being higher than need will make it really touchy too while driving
