I've tried the vinegar before, it has worked decent, but far from ideal(imo). I've had luck with heated pine sol both on cleaning carburators and I soaked a Farmall 300 generator and it took all of the rust and paint off. This Rochester I disassembled and soaked it overnight and it came out beautiful. The cast iron throttle body was rusted and had grime on it, but with some scrubbing and a rinse with carb cleaner it looked like new.

Got my engine painted up! Not the prettiest job but way better then it was before and stole the steel valve covers off the original engine. They are in nicer shape then the aluminum ones it had. Cant wait for the maiden voyage soon!

Started on my new battery cables. Got my stuff from a welding supply store. I already had my lengths and they were nice enough to cut to length strip and crimp the ends. I bought 2 types of heat shrink. One that has glue inside and I took that home. I used Flex-Seal at the junction of cable cover and crimp and in the hole at the front of the crimp then shrank it.

I drilled out the crimps to fit the battery connectors.

Pix! I got pix! Will post more when I get them installed.

Maybe 140 degrees f or so. I just used a propane blow torch to heat it till it got just about too warm to keep my finger in, covered it and let simmer overnight. A hot plate on low or maybe a crock pot would probably work better.

got the new locking hubs in today. Can't wait for a dry day to install and clean the wheels while I'm at it.

Still working on my 85 that I put the th400 transmission in, the Rochester carb has been giving me some issues so I bought an Edelbrock 600 and works much better, Also new plugs, wires, cap. Runs great and looks better with chrome breather and new valve covers. Will try and post pictures tomorrow.
Oh I forgot I changed out the door cards weatherstripping carpet seat dash cover too, last week. More pictures to come.
I figured out my problem my driveshaft is too long, will pull it this morning and see if I have messed up my transmission.

Dropped the transfer case to put in the shift rail to use with a light (NP205) and found out it already had one. Got it back together, fixed some wiring and now have a working 4wd indicator and choke light. Trying to build up my motivation to weld up some holes in the floor and put in new carpet. After that will them be a year swap. Neither of those is going to be much fun!

so I took it back after the new hubs/gearing change because the passenger side hub was loose. They tightened it.

Went to swap out the locking hubs today and it's loose again. Think it's stripped out? Guessing thats called the spindle that the 2 nuts go onto?
