That call I went on was interesting. It was my insurance agent. He knows I drive a tow truck. He was out in rural OKC suburb getting pics of a house he was about to write a policy on, he up the dirt road he goes. No rain lately, nothing to pack the roads down, it's turned to sand. He got stuck. Bossman said 2 1/2 hours and $160. So he called me direct. I took the K1500 and 100 feet of chain about 15 miles out there and pulled him out. Took me about 45 minutes to get there by the time, I topped off ps fluid, got the chains, and stopped for fuel. He asked what he owed me, I said about $15 in fuel and a quart of ps fluid I leaked. He said to hell with that, come by the office Monday, I'll write you a check for $100. Woo Hoo !!! The K1500 did real well in that sand about 8-10 inches deep where I pulled him from. He had the front wheels of his Honda Accord about buried. A good 2/3 at least and it was sitting on the front crossmember. He was stuck good

Finally got the 305 in my 84'! I somehow managed to hook it up to the cherry picker slightly tilted to the drivers side, which made it a HUGE pain to line up in the mounts, but I got it eventually thanks to the help of my wife! I'm glad she's not afraid to get out into the garage and get greasy.

I don't recall where I posted it, but I posted about a guy who was looking for a 700r4 Core to trade for his broke Th400 Core, then emailed me and called it off said, his bellhousing was broke. I told him, it's cool, I'd take the broken trans case core cuz I just need a 6 bolt pump and a drum to complete 2 other transmissions.

I made that trade and finally got around to pulling it apart. Mind you, this Th400 came from a 92 1/2 ton GMT 400 truck that was originally a 700r4, but the guy had bought it recently and wanted to change back to 700r4 anyway. Point is, he didn't know the history of the trans.

Got'r all tore apart and I have bad news for that guy. He had said, he heard some clunking under the truck. Stopped at a light and it quit. Took off from the light and heard a big bang and a jerk and that was it, the TRANS was broke and junk at that point and had it towed home. The bad news is, he THINKS it's his trans. He gave me the driveshaft, so I know it's not that, and when he get his 700r4 rebuilt and installed that he traded me for, he's going to find out he broke his rear end, not his trans. This trans is beautiful inside. Not a think broke. The seals are soft, fluid is a gorgeous shade of red.

No Joke, I didn't clean a thing here, didn't even wipe it off. Just took it apart and this is what it looks like.

You see the little bit of black that ran to the edge of the pan... That is what I call break in sludge. It's clutch material that is usually about the size of a nickel, maybe quarter that is usually present after about 400-500 miles. It's never even enough worth pulling the pan to clean it out. Very common and normal. If you ever open up a trans and see something like that, don't even sweat it. now if it has metal shavings or shiney stuff, them maybe a bit to worry about, but even then if it's very little, might just be a tight bushing or new thrust washer finding it's home.

Pump bushings and pump gasket are new and clean. Transtec is good quality gaskets, also aftermarket which tells me the trans was rebuilt.

So what is going on with this trans now??? I have a Pontiac Th400 Case that is a 6 bolt pump also. All these guts are going in that case including, the truck short bolt on output shaft, and truck deep pan. Then it's getting married to the Olds 455 motor.

Sweeeet! Sounds like you got a killer deal. Can't wait to see that 455 in your truck.
