@JodysCars

Here is a write up. Very simple really.

electrolysis (click)

@Ricko1966 Are you doing this too?

We have been doing this at work now. We were using Evapo-Rust, but this is way cheaper. The article does state it, but make sure your positive clamp to the sacrifice steel is out of the solution.

Done it years, wrote about on here before,my results have been amazing just never took before and after pics, but wish I had because no one would believe it. Your friends think your crazy when the see battery charger cables in 5 gallon buckets full of water. OMG these conversations bring up memories, don't remember what site I was on wrote about doing this to a cam out of my scrap pile, had to have something THAT DAY p.s. it's still in the truck a decade later. Anyway a reader, wrote does this work on aluminum? I was speechless someone else saved the day with this little nugget of joy. Do you have a bunch of rusty aluminum parts? Lol. Read your link, a lot more elaborate than how I do it and have had great results. I hang a couple pieces of whatever ferrous scrap I have into wash soda and water with a wire connected to a battery charger, hook my other piece the same way and hang it on the opposite side, and let her rip.

My friends think I'm crazy even when I'm not cooking rust off in a bucket...

Headers / exhaust manifolds and maybe wheels that have surface rust on the face.
Hi Jody! I hope all is well.

As long as you have a large enough tank that will fit your parts that will work good.
Non toxic, non hazardous, just be quick to wash with fresh clean water and I spray it with vinager to stop the flash rust.

I clean the parts with laquer thinner before primer or paint.

This is a really good short write up on this site.

Be well and stay safe out there.
Best wishes to you and all of your loved ones always!

Jody I have multiple go to's depending on the size of the part, acceseabilty, the finish I'm after, and how much time and trouble I want to spend. Sandblasting no need to explain. Electrolysis @Dryriver1 and @Turbo4whl have already described. I'll use ospho in hard to access or to protect panels I've taken to metal or rust I'm just trying to stop. If you want to use polyurethane over follow the directions at SPI polyurethane. It's the only acid wash they recommend and in my opinion the magic as to why paint over rust products work Acid Wash https://www.ospho.com/directions.htm . Another that works real well at removing rust and leaving clean metal on big things is get it wet with a solution of citric acid and water wet some rags wetted with the same solution and throw on the part to keep it wet. I'll try to find you a write up. Citric acid is what I'd use on a roof in a bed etc. Phosphoric acid inside doors and wheel wells, trunks back sides of panels etc.electrolysis on smaller stuff. Couldn't find a great write up so here's a crappy write up but you'll get the basics. Use 10 percent citric acid more or less.https://www-instructables-com.cdn.ampproject.org/v/s/www.instructables.com/Removing-Rust-with-Citric-Acid/?amp_gsa=1&amp_js_v=a9&amp_page=true&usqp=mq331AQIUAKwASCAAgM%3D#amp_tf=From%20%251%24s&aoh=16937921576733&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.instructables.com%2FRemoving-Rust-with-Citric-Acid%2F
One more trick attach a wire brush to a worn out sawzall blade to remove rust.

I installed some generic hood insulation from LMC today, it’s okay. Not perfect but pretty okay. It sure would have helped if they offered a template or if I had a spare hood. If anyone else is doing this I recommend at least 15 Christmas tree clips

There's enough questions on this, someone should do a write up and sticky it.

My buddy has a small machine shop (was the old NAPA one - does mostly heads, flywheels, rotors, etc.). Also has a high power wash tank, tumbler and shotpean blaster to clean up old blocks. WELL.....he got some big $ diesel intakes that were badly rusted inside and out. No way he could get it clean inside so he made one of these setups with a battery charger, small lift and a 55gal barrel. So he sets one of these intakes in (after they had been shot peaned) and UFB how much rust came out in 72 hrs. He had to scoop the thick film of rust particles that surfaced about every 12hrs.

It was impressive.

I have one but wasn't sure if I'd use it or not. This looks GOOD. Really cleans it up. :pimp:
