I like this efi systems (I also like carbs) and if it fit's your budget, go for it. If you enjoy driving the truck even more after the upgrade it's money well spent. Friend of mine converted his k5 with a 454 from a 72 chevelle to efi and was super happy. Starts instantly when turning the key and lowered the fuel consumption ~ 20% (depending on the right foot).

This will be more for cruising the highway, so this efi may be the best route for optimum tune-ability and fuel economy. I just wish there were more reviews on the 2GC setup.

Keep us posted on what you decide. If you go with the Holley setup I'll be interested to see how you like it on the I-6

I will. I am not a tinkerer, so I like to do it one time and be done with it. So whichever way I do go, it will be like that for a very long time before I decide to try something different, if it gets changed at all. I have to admit, though, the efi is giving off a strong buy me signal...lol... My Jeep Cherokee has EFI, granted it came factory like that, but it runs great, is reliable, and gets decent mileage for a brick. It being a 4.0, and the 292 being a 4.8, the 292 will probably not get the same mileage, but I think with the torque curve being so flat, the engine should get better mileage than the 8-10 out of a stock 292. The setup will have a cruising rpm of 2,000 - 2,500 depending on which tires I end up mounting.

This has given me the idea to try a MPFI system on a 292....

My thought would be a 24x reluctor on the crank, standard vortec distributor for the 1x cam sensor. 0411 ECU with a V6 OS... then you could run individual LS coil packs and a custom MPFI intake manifold with a Vortec V6 throttle body. Full control of all fuel and ignition and fairly cheap. You would be out $150 for good injectors, $50 for the ECU and pigtails, $60 for the tool to do programming and data logging, and then materials for intake and exhaust manifolds. If you include harness materials and all the other little sensors and stuff, you could probably be all-in for well under $1000... I'm sure someone has already done it:emotions33:

I don't think anyone has tried MPFI because the intake ports share cylinders. 1/2; 3/4; 5/6, so there may need to be a divider that protrudes into the intake port of the head to keep the intake charges separated.

I have always wondered why someone hasn't tried a custom intake to do just that.

You will find all kinds of adapters and intakes to run carbs on, though.

I have been dreaming about doing some sort of EFI I6 for a while now. I like the idea of the Sniper 2GC and think it would make a reliable option for you. Your '65 is a really cool pickup and a fuelie 292 would be a really unique and cool project. :favorites13:

Those ports wont ever be needing fuel at the same time though, so you can probably either have side-by-side injectors or just run a single injector that fires for both cylinders on that port. You shouldn't need any divider, the original didn't. It would be pretty sweet to have a MPFI setup and maybe an LS DBW throttlebody on it with a nice big turbo..... damn, now I need to go find a 292 :banghead:

I enjoy the sniper with HEI it works like advertised. Don't know about mileage but throttle response is great.

After doing more research and really thinking about this project, I am going to have a 2G adapter made for an Offy 4 barrel intake that allows the 2G to be mounted sideways. Then rebuild my 2G. And then, if I find it works in an Offy intake, install one of these pigs in the plenum for better atomization. https://www.aussiespeedshop.com/pro...anifolds-bolt-in-thin-style/?wmc-currency=USD Down the road, if the 2G just doesn't cut it, I can more easily swap in the EFI. Now I need to figure out if my 2G is the small base/small bore, which I think it is as it came off of a 283. Tonight I will measure it, and then buy a rebuild kit for it.

This is what I keep hearing, that they work well. This engine will also have HEI. It'll be a hot 292, that's for sure, but not as hot as some out there.

I remember reading an article years ago where someone ran a mpfi setup on a 292 and they could not get good fuel distribution due to the shared ports.

My large bore versions have had a front facing fuel inlet. Iirc, the small bore has a side fuel inlet.
