Hello everyone, I’m new to this site and I’m also a new owner of a 1981 C30 crew cab. When I removed the air filter I noticed this weird “heat shield” that was glued on. Has anybody seen anything like this? What’s the purpose?

Looks like a flame arrestor from a marine engine.... I don't think I've ever seen one on a car engine though

That’s interesting. So I should be fine if I remove it, right?

I don't see why not? As long as there's a regular air filter in there so you don't suck crap in.

Though I also don't see what harm it's doing either.

That is a good point. It makes me wonder what the reasoning was to install it in the first place.
