Have a 1984 gmc high sierra c1500 previous owner did a terrible job of an engine wiring tuck on. And I am wanting to replace the entire engine harness. Ive found one aftermarket harness from swharness I believe it was. But was curious if anyone has a good harness or who you would use for an engine harness. Needing from the firewall out

Engine is a 5.7 carburetor, with hei distributor.

I used the Painless kit last year. Worked out well

I ended up ordering from swclassics who get their harnesses from American auto wire. Seems good quality. Just wish things were labeled a but I know what 80% of it goes to lol.

Are you familiar with 84 harnesses? That have the power wire going to a junction block on the firewall? I’m not sure the block on my truck is the original as someone did a poor wire tuck. Harness has that eyelet for the block and then the large starter wire has 2 red wires attached to it. So I’m uncertain if I need to run a wire from the block to the starter

Ok my painless kit, it came with a new fuse block. Power wire went from fuse block and then teed off there to catch there starter.

I am not familiar much with the electrical and how it works - i just followed the instructions

I will say that when I was researching which harness to buy, the AAW and Painless were neck and neck. The instruction book and documentation on the Painless is why I went that route

Yea there wasn’t much instruction with the American auto wire….. quality harness just no road map.

This one does not replace the fuse block. Just plugs into oem block

These are the wires I’m unsure on. I believe the red eyelet goes to this block on firewall. I saw in a YouTube video someone had a block but it wasn’t an expanded one like this.

I know there is a sort of block from the factory in that same location. Sorry, I'm not a ton of help. But there are some absolute geniuses here who know these trucks inside and out and they'll be able to help you

I’m not in the shop at the moment. But it’s about 16” from the bulk head goes to fuse block. So I’ve figured out it goes to that junction block. I just no longer have the oem block. The pink one I’m about 99% sure goes to the fuel tank like mentioned above. As I found the original wire and it’s pink also.

I’m near Mulvane and udall. South of Wichita.
