Updating this thread since the last time I posted. I did not sell my '79 to date. My father passed away July 12th and the medical bills so far are not as bad as I anticipated them being. Not 100% out of the woods yet, but I'm hoping to get things moving forward without having to sell my C10.

Hopefully will be around the forum a little more now that things are calming down a little around here.
My condolences on your father... I'm 54 and miss my dad. If anyone was there fathers son it's me. Went in the Marines like he did. Drove truck for 17 years like he did... have his sence of humor. I'm going to say keep your dads truck. You will regret getting rid of it. Medical bills came be paid off in small amounts if you need to. The hospital will work out payment plans, all they want is their money. Same goes for any Drs. bills.

I have a chance to pick up a complete NP833 with transfer case and shifter from a diesel squarebody. Really want a NP4500, but this would be better than the granny 4 speed thats currently in my 78. I don't see a lot of information about them, what's it worth, and is it worth messing with?

If depends on what you want from the truck in my opinion if the 833 is the right choice or not.

They are an overdrive variant of the 833 used in Mopars of the 60s and 70s (1975 was the introduction of the overdrive 833)

Strength wise they are plenty strong.

If you are planning on doing a lot of towing/heavy use, sm465 or nv4500 is probably the better choice with the low first gear.

But for a cruiser/light use the 833 should be fine, and the addition of overdrive is a plus, and with a good shifter, should be able to shift a lot faster than a truck trans.

@Keith Seymore @donnieray have 833 equipped trucks.
