Good Afternoon,
I need to pull the Hood and bed for my 8' 84 C10 for painting/cleaning purposes. I don't really have helpers, so I was wondering how much each weighs. I have a "loading" area that's only slightly higher than the bed I was thinking I could slide it off onto with some 2x6's or something.
Thanks!

The hood isn't heavy. It's just large, but you should be able to figure out a way to get it off with just you. It will be harder to get back on by yourself and get it lined up correctly but it can be done.

An 8' foot bed is significantly heavier (don't know exact weight). When putting my bed back on I had four guys (counting me) help with getting the bed back on. With that said, I didn't have access to any other ways to do it on my own via some slick ingenuity. If you have access to a loading dock you may be able to do it yourself with the help of some wood or whatever and eating some wheaties prior. :) Once one end is on the loading area if you had access to a dolly of sorts (one for each corner) that could help as well as you push the bed off the truck and into the loading area.

I take my hood off by myself. You're probably not going to get the bed off that way without damaging it. I use an engine hoist, comes off easy enough.

I used my cherry picker to take mine off, two pieces of 2x4 across the center and it lifts right right up..

Yeah, I just use heavy duty ratchet straps corner to corner and one from side to side at those center stake pockets. Engine hoist pulls the ol 8' dually box right off

As stated an engine hoist w/ ratchet straps makes getting the bed off a simple task. (my guess is that a 8 footer weighs about 350)

I've taken off the hood by myself using the same engine hoist attached to the center of the front leading edge and two ratchet straps on the rear corners going up to the rafters of the shop. Lifted hood up then backed up truck. Should you not have an engine hoist, three straps going up to the rafters.

I wish I had both an engine hoist, and rafters. I barely have headroom in the one car garage i'm using... :(
Thanks for the input though!
