Hi,
So after taking my truck through a massive, and deep, puddle ina dirt parking lot, the air filter is soaked. So much so that it seems like it had been underwater (Even though it hadn't).

Many of my friends trucks are much newer, in the 2000s. Their air filters are in a box off to the side, with a duct bringing it over to the intake.
This setup allows them to go through puddles like this and have a perfectly dry air filter. So, i was wondering if this would be a good idea. If i found a duct that could fit over my carb, clamp it there, and run it over the the side where i can mount a newer style air filter.

Should this allow me to keep my air filter dry through any mud holes or puddles?
Certainly plan on going through more, but want to have this set first, because otherwise it seems i'd need a new air filter after every trip.

Any recommendations as to the best way to do this/products to use?

Thanks!

So do you just have an open element air filter right now? What does the inside of your front wheel wells look like? Cause the '86 and '87 I used to have had rubber/plastic splash guards in there so you couldn't see the frame... and that did quite a bit to keep water from spraying into the engine bay.

Other idea is go to a junk yard and get a '87 or so air filter and snorkel piece. You'd have to figure out a way to cut a hole and attach the snorkel/hose.

Been looking for something, and can't find anything. I've been looking at cold air intakes with boxes, but none seem to fit a truck older than 88, and theyre a lot more then i want to spend.

Lookng at other vehicles, i see that the snorkel runs into a hole in the inside fender wall. If i were to do this, would it work?

Or, is there an airfilter that is covered/enclosed? I've seen on later trucks, 90's or so, that some TBI engines have a air filter inside a metal circle container, just as if you were to put a strip of metal around the currently open filter. Can i find one of those that'll fit my truck?

Thanks!

My '89 & '90 has the snorkel off the air cleaner running to water separater/air diverted box that mounts to the firewall. All factory stuff you can probably find in a square at the junkyard, maybe even off a GMT400 can be made to fit.
