What should I be on the lookout for as far as replacement for my single trac rear with 3:73 gears(I think) I still need to check them and see. Not sure if the rear has ever been replaced or not but he truck has had a motor and trans put put in. I've got a th350 trans and basically a reman 350 in the truck now

A slip-in locker like a Lock-Right or Yukon would be the easiest to set up and install. A full carrier posi is a lot of technical work, if you've never set up a ring & pinion before. But if you plan on taking it on there's plenty of info here on the forum on how to do it.

I wasn't sure if I cod just buy the internal parts or not but thought if I could find an d psi rearend to swap in than that would be easiest, I've messed with gears etc a little but haven't tackled the install fully. I know some times it's a snap, sometimes it's a PITA! Lol

A lunchbox locker like the Powertrax No-Slip is easy to install and has good street manners. No r&p setup, just drop into your open carrier and go. I installed one and had never been into a diff before.

Here's the home page and a typical installation/review. The No-Slip is an upgrade over their Lock-Right and worth the extra money imo. I see they also have some limited slip products out now as well, similar to the Truetrac as far as I can tell, but I'm sure the cost is a lot higher. There's a ton of info out there, just do some searching. I got mine off ebay but lots of vendors carry the brand.

I'll send them an email, my truck isn't by any means a race truck but I'm building for street driving and occasional drag strip fun nights. Lol eventually a motor upgrade maybe next year!

Anybody know how well the drop in lockers behave in the snow? Considering one in a 14 bolt.....

I don't know but I put a Spartan locker in the front of my 79. I haven't used it yet as the truck is still up on jack stands in the garage. I added synthetic gear lube also to help break it in. I turn the front wheel every now and then to keep it lubed. It locks up a lot easier now after doing this several times. I bought the Spartan for $218 off Ebay. That included a $30 rebate deal they had going on. I figured for $218 why not?

You have to take sharper turns slower in the snow because the front end wants to "plow" or go straight with both wheels pulling the same speed. A limited slip is a better choice for a street machine and a locker is better for more offroad where you NEED traction to get you out of a jam.

I am concerned about 2WD in snow with a limited slip. More specifically ice - I don't want to slide off the road crown.

I bought and installed a Detroit TrueTrac, and I'll know how it behaves this winter. It is the least-offensive/most-invisible of traction aids.

Just found out the truck I'm building/having built has 2:73 gears. I am going to have to do something myself.
