What, all but a 1/4", lol..
Come on Art you know that 1/4” of fluid will make it to the floor. Especially when you left a bolt in and didn’t know it and dropped the pan.......we’ve all done it. Lol

Paper then? Any sealer? One side, both sides, wait til it skins over?
Not really paper, it's fibre you see them in tan or black, put them on dry.

this got me thinking though... should I weld it on the corner of the pan? If welded in the bottom it could shear off, however unlikely; if in the vertical part, you’d have the same draining issue, kinda...

I could always suck the residual out with fluid vac.

Came across this lurking for info on my Cummins. Anything like this for our th400?

“Go to a Dodge/Chrysler dealer and get the newer style reuseable pan gasket. The number for the 727 (or A-518/46RH/46RE) is: 2464324AC. It is hard nylon over steel with molded in double sealing beads. Be careful not to overtorque it, or you can strip the case threads because it doesn't compress the same as a cork or rubber gasket.”

Why in your guys opinion would the US Gov’t order the cucv with the np208 when the 205 is regarded as the stronger option by 4wd enthusiasts?

I see some came with the 205 when PTO equipped. But the majority seem to run 208s. Cost saving measure? Ease of maintenance?

Cost, they don't care, it only had to meet required specs, which the 208 does.

My CUCV Blazer has 10 bolts lol, they didn't really do anything with them but drive them around on base. They didn't haul stuff, they weren't front line battle vehicles, just simple butt haulers.

As far a fluid, I just use Spurtech from Walmart.

The 208 has been fine for my purposes. I’ve never towed anything over 8k with 4wd engaged that I can recall.

Actually I lied...

I had a full size concrete truck sink his front wheel up to the spindle in mud on my property. I attempted to help him out. Didn’t get anywhere, but the truck looked awesome spinning all four tires at the same time! I often wonder if I did some serious wear and tear on my rear locker and front lsd in the process.

The boss ended up bringing out a precast septic truck to pull the stuck mixer truck out. He rigged the cable with an old bolt on one end. The bolt sheared on the first pull and the snapping cable came within a few feet of his gut...it could have been a bad day.

And while we’re on the topic of axles and running gear...

I think I have the 5/4 ton leafs from when the PO swapped running gear. There are ten leaves per side: an overload on top, 8 leaves together, then a thick one at the bottom. I’d like to soften it up without losing too much height while saving a couple bucks till I’m ready to redo the shackles.

Can I cut the lowest thick leaf a couple inches to either side of the spring perch so it supports the main leaf pack less?

I figured it will keep the part there as a “block” for maintaining ride height. I don’t think axle wrap will be an issue, given the remaining leaf pack is still thicker than a transfer truck!

Or should I just leave it till I get new springs? It rides like a caddy with a yard of gravel in the bed!! ...but I have a work truck for that. Don’t want to lift or lower it at all, just want to soften it up a bit.

Your idea will work, but taking a spring pack apart and putting it back together really, really sucks.
