Trust me, I have kicked that idea around for a long time. Always dug the look of those tires

Going to dinner in the truck on Saturday, my wife asked if I decided which tires to order. I referenced this thread and how you guys aren't any help. I say that respectfully. After hearing the various responses I parroted back to her, she said what is basically the theme of every question on here when it comes to tires, trim, etc. It's personal preference.

That said, this truck was never intended to wear Crusty's wheels long term, and I am not going to buy different wheels at this time when I have two sets to choose from.

Which leaves 16 chrome wagon wheels, or 16.5 stock steelies.

Yes, 16 opens up tons of options. I know this, and knew this before creating the thread. However, I doubt Firestone is going to discontinue their 16.5 Transforce and I am not wanting to search for stock 8 lug 16 steelies.

Sticking with stock 16.5 steelies, and they're going to get wrapped with Firestone Transforce.

Thanks for all the replies. Once I get everything ordered and installed I will post up photos of the new shoes on the old truck.

Im not here to rain on anyone's parade. Firestone tires by far are the hardest compound that tires can be made of. The reason why firestone is the cause that every car truck made has tpms sensors on them back in the beginning of the 90s if you do not remember FORD and FIRESTONE where at war ( THEY ALSO WHERE IN CAHOOTS TOGETHER THERE WAS A MARRIAGE BETWEEN A DAUGHTER & SON FROM EACH FAMILY'S THAT WHERE MARRIED ) They blamed each other for all the low air blowouts on the ford explorers it ended up being the tire so firestone started making every tire with a harder compound yes they last long but they also become the word driving on tire. The noise the cupping and flat spots for no reason. Just chose wisely on a good tire. I run mickey thompson 35s onmy jimmy and they are a superior.good luck

See attached. Also available in a 5 lug version, our '78 GMC Sierra shop truck had a set on it. Dad had them painted colonial yellow to match the rest of the truck.
These wheels are a little different than the aftermarket versions which were quite popular "back in the day". The triangular holes have a little bit of a bevel stamping, like they were formed on a press, where the aftermarket ones are flat edged. Some of the factory ones may have had tape stripes on the rims.....
I gotta find some pics of that one...it was a badass truck, to be mostly stock.

got to love those wagon wheels all though the chrome ones look better then the white ones imho had a set once they were 15x10 think mounted on 35x12/50x15 super swamper tsl boggers

That whole incident revolved around the "Wilderness A/T" model of tire. Firestone makes tires with different compounds and various construction.

At any rate, I have run the specific Transforce tire in question and they are a fine tire for street use and towing. They are quiet, wear well and offer good stability. Offroad traction (even wet grass) is not great at all, but road use is good.

Buying tires hasn't been top priority, still isn't, but ready to do it. Have decided to stick with the Outlaw2 wheels, 16x8.

I ran LT265/75R16 on Mean Green without issues, and Mean Green was a C20 but new springs. The 81 has old springs, and currently has LT245/75R16. The 245 is 30.5" diameter and is close to rubbing on turns. The 265 is 31.6" diameter. It's 1.1" bigger diameter, only 0.55" bigger in the one side of wheel well. To me, the 265 should fit on a C20. What are your thoughts? Also, 245 is not available in the General or Continental brand. No, I will not buy anything but General or Continental.

They definitely fit fine when using stock width wheels. The 8" wide wheels will make it a closer fit for sure.

I'm not thinking of any good fitment examples at the moment. The closest thing that comes to mind is my old 2wd K5. It had 32x11.5x15's on 8" wide wheels. They barely cleared while turning. I'm guessing actual O.D. was less than 32" though.

Discussing this with my wife, this weekend we're going to fire up the truck and I'll have her turn the wheel until the tires get close on either side and both front and back of the wheel well, and I'll take all the measurements. Then I can decide.

I was really wanting to go with the 9.5/16.5 on the steelies, but after much thought, I am preferring to go with the more common 16.

Surprised that the LT245 sizes are out of stock.

That is the exact wheel/tire size combo that I put on my Suburban R20. I went with a Discount Tire house brand- Rocky Mountain A/T and am pleased with them so far. I too was concerned with the height(31.6") and wheel offset but no rubbing at all. If you want, I could get a photo of the tight area at the front fender tomorrow.
