Other than the dash you can find it on the spid sticker on the front inner fender, the sticker in the door jam, and stamped in two places on the top of the right frame under the cab about where the passenger sits and between the holes for the front bed bolts.

Here's a pic of the partical VIN # on an 85 C20 frame that would be under the cab.

I'm not sure if the C is Chevrolet rather than GMC, of if it's C for C series truck being a 2wd, then the last digits of the actual VIN. If I had to guess, it's for Chevrolet since the part # on the side of the frame would designate a 2wd C series frame.

Also pictured is the part # of the frame and date code on the passenger side frame rail behind the forward section of the fuel tank.

And if the driver door is still OEM, there is a GVWR sticker on the door with VIN and Month/Year of Manufacture. Usually faded and very hard to read.

My '85 K30 has it on top of the right frame rail in the middle of the gas tank.

It seems that the one tons had the stamping farther back, in the fuel tank area. The half and three quarter trucks typically show up under the cab are. At least that seems to be the prevailing trend whenever one of these vin threads get posted.

Nothing, really.

Part number, date code and supplier information.

It's going to vary a little bit by final assembly plant (there were 7 plants building squarebodies) and model (which affects available real estate on the frame where you can put the VIN).

(sorry for replying to this old one)

In this case the "C" is for Chevrolet (as opposed to "T" for GMC).

So the partial VIN would be:

CFJ123456 =

C = Chevy
F = 1985 model year (A= 1980, B='81, etc)
J = Janesville
123456 = sequential portion of VIN

A GMC would be TFJ523456, etc
