Vent window latch replacement

So, replacing the vent window latch is pretty straight forward but I have one question that I'm hoping someone can answer. The chrome knob is held on by a pin that goes through a little hole. What is the magic combination to getting that pin to go into it's hole??

after all them kid's we should not have to tell you how to get your little pin in the little hole a pair of needle nose pliers and a lil hammer

start the pin in the hole on the work bench then put on window and tap the rest of the way in

You a small punch and a hammer

Ok, I got it started via needle nose pliers and hammer once on the window what is suggested for pushing it the rest of the way in? It's pretty snug and wonder if using the hammer once it's on the window runs the chance of breaking the window

lightly tap it all the way in soft taps are you working on it now and on here

Thinking about possibly channel locks and squeeze it in

you can do that but may scratch up the chrome

I just tap them in with a hammer.

Ugh....I'm going to try but put a towel between the chrome and pliers. I'll post back with results
