Valve job or not

Picked up these heads to replace the ones on my goodwrench 350 . Seller said that had a valve job and new seals installed . Do these look like they still need a valve job or just need to be cleaned up a bit

the fact your asking means you have your doubts. only way to know for sure is to disassemble them check the seats and guides

Well can you remove at least one valve it would show you alot!

Also if it does not look like a fresh cut lap them to see if the look off.

Also you wont be able to tell by looking at the combustion chamber.

Can see how well they seal by installing a spark plug and then filling top with liquid. And see how much they leak. Or take one off and check.

Thanks for the info I will pull the valves . Be patient with me please as anything to do with valve work is new to me but my mechanical skills are good and I'm working on educating myself thru reading watching videos and asking questions. The pics are what I started with to where I'm at now

I'd do a mild polish on the chambers and chase the spark plug threads while I was at it.

Did they have a "recent" valve job and have some run time on them? Because judging by the pics, those babies had a carb cleaner and wire wheel "valve job" done to them. Unless they aren't fresh, because any machine shop that would've performed head work like that at a minimum would've hot tanked and media blasted all the ports and combustion chambers. And the spark plug holes would be free and clean of any gunk in them. Also judging by the fact there are still carbon deposits here and there throughout the chambers I'd say pull them apart and inspect them. Best case, keep everything in order and you can put them back together and run them if they aren't that bad. Worst case, they need rebuilt.

what is your budget like ?? if your on a budget disassemble them and see what you have ( post pics if you like )
keep everything in order as you go look at the valve and seat for pitting if they look all right
lap them in and see what you have there is a ton of videos on this
if all looks ok reassemble them cross your fingers and run them

If you have a few bucks to spend
Give these guys a call ( or any machine shop )
and get a valve job and then you know for sure

If they were just done you will know when you pull 1 of them it will still have a perfect cut I have pulled so many ls valves and you can tell when they possibly might be warn but a fresh cut looks brand new even after running them.
Could be a guy that just lapped his old heads that needed a valve job and just lapped them instead. Pull a valve a d put up a pic!

There 041 castings I only played $120 for them

041 was the casting on the 350/350 , 302 among others...wish I had some....lucky!
