I have an '86 K5 that had Cruise Control in it - it's long gone along with the computer - etc.

Now I have trouble with the intermittent wipers - in that the wires that come out of the turn signal stalk are broken and too short to repair.

I found this --->

ACDelco 22510733

... at Amazon and it doesn't have the Cruise Control switches ... which is something I would like!

Will it fit where a stalk with Cruise Control was and will it work for the only things I need ... Wipers, Turn Signal and Headlight High-Low control?

I can't see a pic, but if you have the wiper switch on the column, and you are looking at the basic stalk with no cruise then yes, it will plug right in your old wiper switch.

If you are talking the wiper switch itself I can't answer.

Sorry ... that was my Amazon account page and it won't open for anyone but me.

Here's one that anyone can see. Link here for pix.

I guess I just jerk the old one out and insert the new one ... right?

I kinda remember doing that many years ago for a customer or two.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Literally, yes - with the wiper switch in the off position.

Now, if your old cruise/wiper switch still has good wires, you could unplug it down below the column, pull the stalk and wires out thru the hole in the upper housing, and save it for someone else who down the road may need it.

If the wires are already fubar then just cut them and pull them out from the bottom so there is now way they can get tangled in anything in the column.

Then, with the wiper switch off, push in your new stalk and voila !

:)

the stalk only operates the switch in the column. replacing it will have no affect on wiper operation.

if all the wiring is good, the likely issues are the module at the base of the steering column or the park switch and circuit breaker in the motor assembly. less likely is the switch in the column.

there are troubleshooting guides in the manuals in the library to help you figure it out.

I kinda though that too.

I have a second, reman'd wiper motor, and it behaves exactly the same, so I know the existing motor is okay.

Sadly, there are no more delay modules ... but there are some PNP replacement modules on Amazon although they have a different footprint.

Hopefully, it's not that.

.... besides ... I like getting rid of the C/C and the RESUME SWITCH.

Win-win for me ... almost.

this part is a direct replacement. I replaced my module when mine acted up with this part. I still had issues until I replaced the motor. but I left the new module installed so I know it works.

there is also a thread somewhere about repairing the module if you have the capability and know how.

I'd like to see that module repair post.

Pretty sure it'll be the problem ... but I still like the simpler stalk.

I'd like that if I wanted to have all that Cruise Control stuff still on the stalk.

Thank-you very much for the offer and information.

Stick around though - I may need you later!

no doubt if you don't have cruise hooked up and have no plans to restore it, I would use the simpler stalk for a cleaner look.

here is the repair thread I remembered ->

https://www.gmsquarebody.com/threads/weird-wiper-delay-video.27859/

good luck!

That's so easy a cave man can do it.

Seriously I have changed the steppers on a few dashboards and added LEDs (of colors) to them for friends - so soldering in a few caps ain't gonna be hard.

Thanks for the info - it's very nicely done.
