Hello everyone! I recently purchased an 87 K10 and the owner did a number on wiring. Shorts everywhere. Any references to a shop or person for rewire?

There are lots of venders that sell ready to install reproduction harnesses. Your other option is to completely remove the harness, lay it out on a large table, and carefully inspect and repair each section and splice. Definitely have a good service manual with a wiring diagram.

If its really bad, and you aren't good with electrical, it might be best to just get a whole new painless harness and start over.

Have a complete rewire kit from AAW, just can't find anyone to do the labor.....

Wiring can be a royal PITA and its going to take a lot of hours to install. I would think a shop would probably charge $500-1000 in labor just to do a harness like that, depending on location. Figure it would take an average Joe an entire weekend to install, which is a solid 8-16 hours. Shop time is going to be $80-140/hr or maybe more depending on the area you are in.

I would just take a crack at installing it myself. Its not that complicated and if you take your time it should be no problem at all.

The difficult part is the interior and engine portion. The firewall is a three piece clam shell. The interior is one and the engine compartment side splits in to two pieces. one side is the rear lighting and the other side is front lighting and engine, fuel controls.

You can find the wiring diagrams in Reference section on this forum. Work on one piece at a time get familiar with it, then you won't have to pay someone.

It's probably not as bad as you think. Get a multimeter learn how to use it or ask a friend that knows how to use one.

I agree take a shot at the install. Keep good notes. Write down each circuit as it is completed.

And ring everything out before connecting power and ground to the battery

Unfortunately due to my housing situation I don't have the space to attempt myself...
