If the gear and tire combo is going to stay the same, just run the TH400 whenever the 700 decides to fail. Swap to a 32 spline input in the 241.

My personal choice of all that would be the NV4500 with the same np241 and also a gear swap to 5.13's.

Understandable it’s hard to show the world the full devotion to compensation if your truck can’t even compensate for its shortcomings too

Sort of a conundrum, but for pure simplicity and less work involved, the 700r4 wins. Just roll the dice, treat it nicely and know it might not last forever behind a 300hp ish big block.
NV4500 has its obvious advantages and would be my choice if you were planning on towing and no serious wheeling or rock crawling ( for the reasons you mentioned).
4L80 is a great option that comes with the challenges mentioned.
Turbo 400 only has half those challenges and you know it’s a good trans. Personally the TH400 works well behind the stock Vortec 454 in my rig and would be my second choice for your planned use.
Think I’d sell the 4L80 and especially sell the NV4500 ($$$$), leave the 700 in it for now, keep the 400 as an option and decide which you really want later.

It sounds scary, but with overdrive and 37's, it's actually fairly conservative. Even a lot of modern trucks have 4:10's and little tires in the 32" range. Going to 37's and no gear change makes overdrive just about useless.

Why did you lead the horse ? That’s extra work and I have a feeling you will Not win a fight with a horse trying to drown it because sheer size and a kick is probably end of fight.

Here's my two cents: I like the 700r4, had one built behind a 383 stroker with 460 HP in a c10 and never had a problem. That NV4500 is the earlier version so it will have a lower ( numerically higher) first gear. Rock crawler, trail rig guys would really like to have and theyre getting scarce and if you sold it, you could put $ towards having one of the automatics built.Good luck with your project, whatever you decide!

Im run a 454 has around 375 conservative HP. stock 350 could not handle and broke in the race that the sprag run on. Rebuilt it with stock clutches, 32 element sprag, Sonox race, 4l60e center section. I mention this as the 700r4 is the od unit to the 350. I haul big loads, pull a trailer all the time, and the rear tires are bald from burnouts, just did a great one in front of the sheriffs house down the road, he is my son-in-law. Ok, I am in the process of building a 4l80e for my 73, trans from a 2006 3500 Express van 45000 miles, looks excellent. I will still pull it partially apart to check it out, smell the oil, (burnt), and set it up (for now) as a manual shift like this:

. 4.10 gears, 33 or 35 tire. @ 60 runs 2550 RPM with 35's, 3050 rpm at 70. Motor seems good at that speed, not so much good at the gas pump. My .02. it is my understanding that the Chevy NV is not as strong as the Dodge, or Ford, what i've read, and they are not easly interchangeable. VOTE: 2002 on 4l80e (has all the upgrades.) Well thanks for the opinions. You know the saying about em.

I believe my course if action will be to run the 700 for now unless its acts up. When the big block goes in, so will the th400. Not into adding more electronics so the 4l80-e is out.

Im sure if the 700 pops it will be in my driveway. Lol
