The wheels were painted black when I got the vehicle and after a while the black paint was chipping off. So I decided to touch them up. Sanded them down a bit before spraying them with engine enamel black, with a coat of clear on them. Not perfect but for the cold conditions and painting them off the back porch I don't think they came out too bad. What do you guys think?

Looks good to me. I've been wondering if these wheels are worth saving. They've got rust in spots, so I thought I might just sand blast them and paint them black too. Being 8 lug, I'm going to be short a set of 8 lug wheels if I don't use these.

You think I might have the same success???

I'd rather find some 8 lug Centerlines or Weld Wheels.

Well, you have them already...

I liked the ones available from back in the day, with the anodized centers. Black and gold were cool, red and blue were OK too I guess.

I know of a set of 6 bolt Gold/Chrome on a 67-72 body style.

HotRodPC you should look into some stuff called Plasti-dip. Its basically colored rubber paint in a can. Comes in different colors and all you have to do is spray a base white coat then the color. The wife wants me to do her vehicle with that.

Yeah I have them. Guess I have nothing to lose by trying. I won't use them like this unless it's on a beater truck, but I'll need wheels for the K10 that I'm converting to K20 axles. I'd be OK if they turned out as good as Walt's K5 wheels.

I might have to research that stuff. I'm fine with Black or White. Black seems to be popular these days. I'm just more concerned of the paint will stick to the chrome. And then the rust spots are obviously going to be there too. I'll have to be buying some POR-15 for the frame and bottom of the cab, maybe I can just do the wheels in POR-15 too.

HR, I have the same wheels and they were rusty too. They got sanded and painted with "chrome" paint. They look good from 10 feet away and ok up close. I'd say it was worth a can or two of spray bomb. Hell of a lot cheaper than new wheels. We'll see how it holds up over time. They've been painted for about 10 months now with no paint flaking .

Walt, I think yours look good.

That's prolly what I'll do then. It'll just be for a wheeler truck, not a show truck.

Diggin the black spray. Turned out pretty good. Nice contrast against the red drum.

So in my case Walt, I still have my center caps. Think I should buy new chrome center caps to match the lug nuts, or I think to cheap out, just paint the center caps black too like the wheels huh?

And these are likley to be used on a 4x4, so I could cut 2 of them to leave the opening to get to the hub locks. cut the top off and buff the edge so it's not sharp huh??? I gotta do everything very LOW BUDGET and make do with what I have, like it or not.

When I put the wheels back on I then thought I should off bought new shiny lug nuts too. I'll have to make a trip to the store later and also give the drums a new coat of paint. Hopefully it stops there....

I think your lug nuts look fine. Just wondering if you're planning on center caps and would you do chrome to match the lug nuts, or black to match the rims?

How are you liking those Hakook MT's? I've got an old set that came on my K10, that have been transferred to my K1500 since the Firestone Wildernesses that came on it were having blow outs. So far, these old ass tires have been very good. No blow outs, holding air, not noisy, tread wear seems to be good. I'm certainly getting my monies worth out of these AT's and I'd say there were at least 50% worn when I started using them.

I don't know about hancocks....hahahahahaha. But the hankooks have been good all around except some icy snow. Not very much traction. But seem to wear fine not noisy and hold air very good. They were on when I bought the truck last year and haven't had any issues. About the center caps I would like to find some chrome just to have a little more contrast.
